The off day proved to be eventful for the M's when it came to roster construction

The Seattle Mariners gave some more clarity to their roster situation on Monday afternoon, announcing that infielder Patrick Wisdom had been sent to Triple-A Tacoma, while reliever Domingo Gonzalez cleared waivers and has also been sent to Tacoma.

Gonzalez was designated for assignment and is now off the 40-man roster, but he could still prove to be a useful roster piece for the M's as the season goes on.

The bigger piece of news is the Wisdom decision, as it points to a handful of other developments.

Let's dive in.

JP Crawford is coming back on Tuesday

As was expected, the runway is now clear for Crawford to return from the hand contusion he suffered on June 5 against the Detroit Tigers. With 10 home runs and a 119 OPS+, Crawford has been a big part of the M's offensive attack, and it will be a welcome sign for the team to get him back.

What about the backup infielder spot?

As of now, this opens up the door for Miles Mastrobuoni to serve as the team's backup infielder, with him providing the ability to spend some time in the outfield if needed.

The good? Mastrobuoni is out of options and this keeps him in the organization. He also is a solid fundamental player, who can play multiple positions while also running well and being able to drop a bunt when needed.

The bad? The Mariners now have a completely left-handed infield and are even more susceptible against left-handed pitching. Furthermore, with Mastrobuoni on the bench, they have an additional lefty in that role.

How about Josh Naylor?

Naylor left Sunday's game after fouling a ball off his leg in the sixth inning. Since Wisdom was the backup first baseman, this points to him being OK.

What else needs to come?

--The Mariners also plan to bring back catcher Cal Raleigh from the injured list on Tuesday. There will need to be a corresponding roster move for that as well, likely catcher Jhonny Pereda.

--It's possible that the team could still elect to DFA Mastrobuoni while bringing up Ryan Bliss to be the utility infielder, though he doesn't have as much versatility as Mastrobuoni.

--It's also possible that the team could DFA Mastrobuoni and elect to keep Pereda, having three catchers to protect against Raleigh discomfort.

--There could be another move coming with someone hitting the injured list, which would free up a roster spot.

The Mariners will open up a three-game series with the Orioles on Tuesday at 6:40 p.m. PT at T-Mobile Park.
