We caught up with Mariners TV personality Brad Adam to discuss the final days of ROOT Sports and what comes next.

Brad Adam speaks with Brady Farkas on the most recent 'Refuse to Lose' podcast.

Seattle Mariners television broadcasts will be different in the 2026 campaign after the 2025 shuttering of ROOT Sports.

The Mariners ceased operations of ROOT at the end of the 2025 season and will become one of the teams under MLB's broadcast production in the upcoming year.

We caught up with longtime Mariners' television personality Brad Adam on the most recent 'Refuse to Lose' podcast to talk about his career, the 2025 season, the final week of ROOT Sports, and what comes next.

Here's a snippet of that conversation, with more reaction to come after:

"And it was interesting because I knew that Angie (Mentink) and I were going to continue to cover the Mariners. She's going to be working with the Mariners. I'm going to be working with MLB. So our roles will be the same. But that wasn't really explained to the viewers, so it seemed like we were just signing off.

It was our last ROOT show because ROOT is gone. And a lot of the crew is still kind of up in the air. We don't know if they're going to be back or if we're going to have the same set, if we're going to do a half hour — which I think we will — half-hour pre and post. I'm not sure if the set will be there, if those guys out there will be brought back.

So it was kind of emotional in the sense of we didn't know what the future holds for most of the people there. So, you get caught up in thinking about that and thinking about, you know, the audio guy and the camera guy who has been out there for 20 years with us, not knowing what their future holds for them. And just everybody in the truck that's probably not going to be back with MLB taking over production - some will, a lot won't. And just the relationships that you build with those guys and the on-air stuff, it just — you know — 25 years I've been with Ange. I think 17 with Jen (Mueller), so that was, that was — it was hard to say goodbye.

And I thought I'd get, like, emotional, but I didn't know it would hit me, like that hard. That whole week was really hard."

What this means for the fans

With the usual broadcast crew being brought back, hopefully the impact on the fan viewing experience is negligible, but to Adam's point, there are questions about some of the broadcast logistics moving forward.

The behind-the-scenes changes likely won't impact the fans in a tangible way, but it's an unfortunate reality of the business decision to shut down ROOT Sports. To anyone who loses their job in this re-shuffling, we thank you for what you brought to M's broadcasts, and we wish you well.

How about actually watching?

As was noted by FOX 13 in November of 2025:

  • MLB will handle all production, while the Mariners will control the broadcast lineup and content. Games will stream through a team subscription available via the ESPN App, MLB.TV, and the MLB App.
  • Similar MLB streaming markets charged about $19.99 per month or $99.99 per season in 2025. The price for in-market streaming in 2026 has not yet been announced.
