SEATTLE -- The Seattle Mariners toppled the Detroit Tigers 3-2 on Sunday night in Game 2 of the American League Division Series at T-Mobile Park.

With the win, the series is tied at one game apiece and now shifts to Detroit for Games 3 and 4.

Jorge Polanco was the star of Sunday's win, driving two home runs out to left field off reigning American League Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal. He's the first player to hit two home runs off Skubal since 2021 and he did something not seen by any Mariners player since 1995.

Per Sarah Langs of MLB.com:

Jorge Polanco with the 4th multi-homer game in Mariners postseason history, joining:

1995 ALCS G3 Jay Buhner

1995 ALDS G4 Edgar Martinez

1995 ALDS G1 Ken Griffey Jr.

Any time you can join those three team Hall of Famers in history, you've done something right, and Polanco certainly has.

He has been a major driver for the Mariners this season, hitting .265 with 26 home runs and 78 RBIs. He's paired with Cal Raleigh and Julio Rodriguez to make one of the more powerful lineups in the American League this season, and the additions of Eugenio Suarez and Josh Naylor have only added to that depth.

A 12-year veteran, Polanco is now in his second year with Seattle after being traded before the 2024 season. He spent most of 2024 playing hurt and had his contract option for 2025 declined, but he opted to re-sign on a lesser deal last offseason.

He's likely to enter free agency again this offseason and he'll be in high demand, but that's a conversation for another day.
