The M's moved back to .500 with a 7-6 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday night.
Though it ended up closer than it should have, the Seattle Mariners eventually beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 7-6 on Friday night at T-Mobile Park.
The Mariners led 5-1 in the sixth inning before ultimately surrendering four runs in the sixth to see the game knotted at 5-5.
The M's took a 6-5 lead in the bottom of the sixth on a home run by Luke Raley before the Diamondbacks tied the game at 6-6 in the top of the ninth.
Somehow, the M's avoided allowing a run against the heart of the Arizona order in the top of the 10th before Randy Arozarena hit a walk-off single to right field in the bottom of the 10th.
But long before Arozarena's theatrics, M's star Julio Rodriguez was making some personal history for himself.
Rodriguez hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the third inning, lasering the shot out to left field. As noted by Sarah Langs of MLB.com, the 113.6 mph blast was the third-hardest hit home run of his career. Langs also notes that the 16 degree launch angle was the lowest of Rodriguez's career.
In addition to the metric-based history, the home run also represented the ninth home run of May for Rodriguez, which is the most he's ever hit in a single month.
A three-time All-Star already, Rodriguez is now hitting .265 with 11 homers and 29 RBIs. He had three hits in this win, and this is notably the best first two months of any season of his career.
He's hitting .323 over his last seven games, which includes three homers and eight RBIs.
In addition to homers from Rodriguez and Raley, the M's also got two home runs from JP Crawford. It's the first multi-home run game of his career.
Up next for the Mariners
The Mariners will look to get back above .500 for the first time since March 30 on Saturday night when they play the Diamondbacks at 7:10 p.m. PT.
Right-hander Bryan Woo, coming off a loss last Sunday, will pitch against right-hander Ryne Nelson. Woo is 4-3 with a 3.82 ERA while Nelson is 2-3 with a 4.65.
The series will conclude on Sunday afternoon at 1:10 p.m. PT.
