The pitcher, currently at High-A Everett, was unhittable last week.
At the major league level, the Seattle Mariners toppled the Texas Rangers 5-2 on Sunday afternoon to win their second consecutive game. The M's improved to 10-13 with the win and will look to continue their winning ways on Monday night against the Athletics (6:40 p.m. PT) and T-Mobile Park.
However, the news down on the farm was also impressive for the M's, who saw pitchers Kade Anderson dominate at Double-A Arkansas and Mason Peters dominate at Single-A Inland Empire.
Both pitchers were drafted in 2025 out of the college ranks, but another 2025 draftee also turned heads at High-A Everett.
Lucas Kelly was named to the MLB Pipeline Team of the Week for his performance with the AquaSox. In two games, he pitched 3.2 innings, giving up no runs and one hit. He walked none and recorded 10 of his 11 outs via the strikeout.
More on Kelly
Now 22 years old, Kelly stands at 6'4 and 220 pounds. A sixth-round pick of the Mariners out of Arizona State, he pitched for Everett at the end of last season, helping the AquaSox win the Northwest League title.
He made five appearances, registering a 7.50 ERA. He has the same ERA this season through four appearances, though his strikeouts are at 13 over six innings. Opponents are hitting just .150 against him.
He's ranked as the No. 29 prospect in the system by MLB Pipeline.
What they are saying
The following comes from a portion of his MLB.com prospect profile:
The 6-foot-4 Kelly is strong and physical and comes at hitters largely with a two-pitch mix and a funky delivery. His four-seam fastball topped out at 99 mph in college, and it misses bats thanks to its carry up in the zone. He backs it up with his 79-84 mph slider that can have good depth and bite to it at times, a breaking ball that could be at least above average if he can find the strike zone with it more
More on the M's
--The Mariners will send Emerson Hancock to the mound against the Athletics on Monday. JT Ginn will be the pitcher for the A's.
--The M's have placed third baseman Brendan Donovan on the injured list with a hip/groin issue. He sat out the previous two games because of the issue and the Mariners have recalled Will Wilson in his place. This means that Donovan will miss his return to St. Louis over the weekend.
