SEATTLE -- Seattle Mariners starting pitcher Luis Castillo delivered a short, but solid, start on Sunday night in Game 2 of the American League Division Series at T-Mobile Park.
Pitching against the Detroit Tigers, Castillo threw 4.2 scoreless innings, only allowing one hit. The bullpen of Gabe Speier, Eduard Bazardo, Matt Brash and Andres Munoz held onto to give the Mariners a 3-2 win and even up the series at a game apiece.
For Castillo, playoff success is nothing new, as noted by the Mariners on Monday afternoon.
Luis Castillo in 4 career Postseason appearances: 1.48 ERA (4 ER, 24.1 IP), 22 strikeouts, 5 walks.
Castillo’s 1.48 ERA is 2nd-lowest among active @MLB starting pitchers in the Postseason (min. 15 IP).
The righty was asked about what makes him so successful in the playoffs following Sunday's performance, and he answered via translator:
Yeah. You know, I think these are levels that when they come up, all you got to do is win. To win is the objective. So whenever it's my turn to go up on the mound, you know, I know that I don't have to give 100%, I have to give 110% because these are just moments that you really got to step up, and I think those are some merits that you have been coming through my career.
The Mariners and Tigers will now shift the series back to Detroit for Game 3, which will be played on Tuesday afternoon at 1:08 p.m. PT. Logan Gilbert will take the ball while Jack Flaherty pitches for the Tigers.
The Mariners have not announced a Game 4 plan yet, but Bryce Miller figures to start in that contest.
