After getting swept by the Miami Marlins in three games, the Seattle Mariners enter play on Friday at 47-47 and 0.5 games back of the Texas Rangers in the American League West.

The Mariners close out the first half of the season this weekend with a series against the American League-leading Rays. It certainly won't be easy for Dan Wilson's team, who will have to deal with elite starting pitching in all three games of the series.

In addition to the final series before the All-Star break, Mariners brass is also focusing on the MLB Draft, which is this weekend in Philadelphia. Once the draft ends, executives can start focusing on the looming trade deadline, which is Aug. 3.

The Mariners will clearly have needs at the trade deadline, specifically a right-handed hitter who can help against left-handed pitching and a reliever that can work in medium-to-high leverage.

Last week, on the 'Refuse to Lose Territory' podcast, ESPN MLB Insider Buster Olney suggested that Taylor Ward of the Baltimore Orioles would be a perfect fit for the Mariners, and on Friday, he suggested another name that could be an option for the M's.

"I think another guy, and this one I find to be more likely in terms of a potential fit, is Heliot Ramos of the San Francisco Giants. He's a right-handed hitter. He's come off the injured list recently. He's actually performed well.

Earlier this week, he had the game where he had, what? Two homers and a triple.

I suspect there's going to be some play on Heliot Ramos, but again, we're only talking about that specifically because the Giants are one of the few teams that have actually declared themselves to be sellers.

We're going to hear about more teams being sellers over the next two weeks, but at the moment, it doesn't feel like there are a lot."

About Ramos

A 26-year-old from Puerto Rico, Ramos is a five-year veteran of the Giants who earned an All-Star appearance in 2024. A career .259 hitter, he's hitting .276 this season with eight homers and 28 RBIs. He has a 122 OPS+ and he's also hitting .314 against left-handed pitching with a .353 on-base percentage.

He's under contract through 2029, which could be appealing to the Mariners, who tend to not like deals for rental players.
