NEW YORK -- The Seattle Mariners snapped a six-game losing streak on Thursday afternoon by beating the New York Yankees 1-0 at Yankee Stadium.
While the offense only mustered five hits, it did just enough behind the excellent pitching of Logan Gilbert and three relievers.
Here's what you need to know from the victory:
Gilbert steps up big
Given the issues with this team in the bullpen right now, the Mariners best chance at winning games is by getting their starter to go six innings or more. Gilbert did just that, throwing 95 pitches in a brilliant outing. He gave up just four hits and one walk while striking out seven. He's now 9-7.
He was aided by some nice challenges as well, first from the dugout which helped overturn a safe call at second base that would have put runners at second and third with one out in the third, and then from catcher Jhonny Pereda, who won two challenges in the sixth inning to get strikeouts.
Nice day for Weston Wilson
Wilson, who has been forced into a lot of action against left-handed pitching, put together one of his most memorable games of the season.
He hit a home run in the second inning off left-hander Max Fried, worked a 12-pitch walk and also stole a base.
Young and Emerson don't get days off
Cole Young, who left Wednesday's 10-5 loss with a bout of dizziness, did not start this game, but did enter in the top of the seventh inning. He pinch-hit with a runner at second and two outs and grounded to third base.
Colt Emerson, who went 0-for-4 with four strikeouts on Wednesday, was supposed to get a day off, but he entered defensively in the bottom half of the seventh.
Arozarena continues to play well
After homering in each of the first two games of this series, Randy Arozarena continued to spark the offense, this time from the top of the order. He went 1-for-3 with a single and a walk. The All-Star is now hitting .276 with an impressive .822 OPS.
Bazardo adventure continues
Leading 1-0 in the seventh inning, manager Dan Wilson summoned Eduard Bazardo from the bullpen. After getting two quick outs, he walked the speedy Jose Caballero ahead of left-hander Ryan McMahon.
Caballero was caught stealing, but was awarded second base after the ball was dropped by Emerson. Bazardo then walked McMahon to put the go-ahead run at first base.
With Amed Rosario pinch-hitting, Caballero stole third. Bazardo was able to strike out Rosario, stranding the runners, thanks to another won challenge by Pereda.
Ferrer shines again
Brought in to protect a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the eighth inning, Ferrer followed up his solid performance on Tuesday by getting Trent Grisham to fly out to CF and Ben Rice to line out to LF. Pinch-hitter Heliot Ramos grounded out to shortstop, ending the inning.
Big day for Pereda
In addition to his critical three won challenges behind the plate, Pereda also had a single to centerfield.

Closer Andres Munoz entered the game in the ninth inning looking for the save. He got Luis Garcia to ground out to second, George Lombard Jr. to strike out and Jazz Chisholm to fan as well.
Off to Houston
The Mariners will head to Houston for a crucial three-game series against the Astros. To be frank, if the Mariners want really any chance in the American League West, they have to win that series.
Seattle enters it at 57-65. The Mariners are five games back of Houston.
