The Seattle Mariners were one of the best teams in baseball last season.
The Mariners had five players selected to the 2025 All-Star game, made it to Game 7 of the American League Championship Series and will likely be one of the most well-represented clubs in the 2026 World Baseball Classic.
Seattle is also receiving its flowers from MLB's flagship channel, MLB Network.
MLB Network is currently in the midst of releasing its "Top 100 players right now" list and the Mariners had two players ranked within the 80-61 range, which were revealed Jan. 14.
Right-handed starting pitcher Logan Gilbert ranked 72nd and first baseman Josh Naylor was ranked 70th.
Gilbert entered 2025 season as Seattle's Opening Day starter. He was on the injured list from April 26-June 16 due to a right flexor strain but still managed to put together a solid year.
Gilbert posted a 3.44 ERA and struck out 173 batters in 131 innings pitched across 25 starts. His 32.3% strikeout rate placed in the 94th percentile of the majors, according to Baseball Savant.
Naylor was acquired by the Mariners in a trade with the Arizona Diamondbacks on July 24.
In 54 games in the Pacific Northwest, Naylor slashed .299/.341/.490 with an .831 OPS and hit 10 doubles and nine homers with 33 RBIs. He was also a perfect 19-for-19 in stolen base attempts.
Naylor continued his solid performance in Seattle's franchise-best postseason run.
In 12 playoff games, Naylor slashed .340/.392/.574 with a .966 OPS and hit two doubles and three homers with five RBIs.
Naylor was rewarded for his incredible second-half and playoffs with a five-year, $92.5 million contract from the Mariners. It's the largest contract signed between a free-agent hitter and the organization since president of baseball operations Jerry Dipoto joined the front office in 2015.
The previous highest contract for a free-agent hitter in the Dipoto era was a two-year, $24 million deal signed by backup catcher Mitch Garver ahead of the 2024 season.
Since Dipoto has joined the front office, the M's have focused on building a roster centered around pitching. The club has also stayed busy in the trade market and the draft in efforts of building a core capable of contention.
Both Naylor and Gilbert are key members of that aforementioned core and several more players comprising it will likely make an appearance on the top 100 as the countdown continues.
