The Mariners will look to close out its seven-game homestand on a strong note against the Yankees
SEATTLE โ The Seattle Mariners got through their first series of the season, a four-game set against the Cleveland Guardians, with a series split.
It might not have been a series win like the Mariners wanted but they ended the series on a strong note.
Seattle took game four against the Guardians by a score of 8-0 after a career-best night from starting pitcher Emerson Hancock.
The Mariners will attempt to carry that momentum into a three-game series against the New York Yankees, which will take place from March 30-April 1 at T-Mobile Park in Seattle.
Here's the pitching matchups for the upcoming series between the two American League foes.
- March 30 (Monday) โ RH Luis Castillo (Seattle) vs. LH Ryan Weathers (New York)
Monday will mark the season debut for both pitchers.
Luis Castillo will tasked with anchoring the starting rotation and will be last of the five to start his first game this season.
Castillo was the only starter on Seattle's rotation, which included Bryan Woo, Logan Gilbert, George Kirby and Bryce Miller, to not miss time last season with respective injuries.
Castillo posted a 3.54 ERA and struck out 162 batters in 180.2 innings pitched across 32 starts.
Weathers will be looking to make a solid first impression with his new team after an injury-plagued 2025 with the Miami Marlins.
Weathers was limited to just eight starts due to two injured list stints related to a flexor strain and left lat strain, respectively.
The former first-round draft pick mustered a 3.99 ERA and fanned 37 hitters in 38.1 innings pitched across eight starts last season.
- March 31 (Tuesday) โ RH Logan Gilbert (Seattle) vs. LH Max Fried (New York)
Gilbert will be making his second start of the season after taking the mound for the Mariners' first game of the season on Opening Day.
Against Cleveland on March 26, Gilbert fanned seven batters in 5.1 innings pitched. He allowed three earned runs on five hits (one home run).

He blanked the Giants and struck out four batters in 6.1 innings pitched. He walked a hitter, hit another and gave up two hits.
- April 1 (Wednesday) โ RH George Kirby (Seattle) vs. Cam Schlittler (New York)
Kirby's first outing of the year coincided with Seattle's first win and first overall quality start of the season.
The 2023 All-Star fanned six hitters in as many innings pitched, walked two batters, hit another and allowed one earned run on two hits (one home run) in a 5-1 M's victory on Friday.
Schlittler threw 5.1 innings of scoreless baseball in his season debut against San Francisco on May 27. He struck out eight hitters and allowed just one hit and no free bases.
