The Seattle Mariners are likely going to be one of the most well-represented teams in the 2026 World Baseball Classic this upcoming spring.
American League MVP finalist Cal Raleigh will be Team USA's starting catcher, All-Star outfielder Julio Rodriguez will compete for the Dominican Republic and top 100 prospect Michael Arroyo will be on the Colombia roster.
The Mariners will likely have several more players compete in the WBC, including outfielder Randy Arozarena, who was announced on Mexico's roster on Tuesday.
Arozarena, along with Boston Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran, was one of two players who were been confirmed by Team Mexico manager Benji Gil, according to a recent report on "X" from Francys Romero.
This will be Arozarena's second WBC with Mexico.
Arozarena, originally from Cuba, defected from his native country in 2015 and established residency in Mexico for a year before signing a minor league deal with the St. Louis Cardinals on Aug. 1, 2016. He made his professional debut a year later.
While he established residency in Mexico, Arozarena competed in the Merida Winter League, Norte de Mexico League, Mexican Pacific League and Mexican League. He became a citizen of the country, which allowed him to compete Team Mexico in the WBC.
In the 2023 tournament, Arozarena scored eight runs in six games and hit six doubles and a home run with nine RBIs. He slashed .450/.607/.900 with a 1.507 OPS and helped lead Mexico to a bronze medal.
Despite him and Duran being the only players confirmed, Arozarena will likely be joined by a Seattle teammate on Team Mexico in the '26 WBC.
According to a story from Seattle Times reporter Ryan Divish, Team Mexico general manager Rodrigo Lopez "believes" that All-Star Mariners closer, Andres Munoz, will be on the team in the same role for the international tournament.
“This year, he’s on the roster and hopefully everything goes well and sooner than later, the team confirms it,” Rodrigo said in Divish's story. “I’ve talked to him and he wants to participate. I think it means a lot to him.”
The Mariners could have upwards of a dozen players on respective 2026 WBC rosters, according to Divish's story, from All-Star-caliber players to high-end prospects.
There are still players that need to receive clearance and be confirmed to compete in the international tournament. But the way things are looking, Seattle's Cactus League games could have some very intriguing rosters when the WBC takes place from March 4-15.
