Seattle Mariners Add Pair of Pitchers to Minor League Ranks cover image

The Mariners inked Brendan White and Nick Garcia to minor league deals

The Seattle Mariners will see several pitchers depart for the 2026 World Baseball Classic, which takes place from March 5-17. The four locations for the Opening Round will be San Juan, Puerto Rico; Tokyo; Houston and Miami.

The pitchers departing the team's spring training complex in Peoria, Ariz., for the international competition will also extend to the minor leagues and the Mariners will have several pitchers get extended opportunities in place of the hurlers competing in the WBC.

In the lead-up those departures, Seattle made two signings that will help the team manage the deficit in its Cactus League pitching staff.

The Mariners agreed to terms on minor league contracts for right-handed pitchers Brendan White and Nick Garcia on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.

Garcia was assigned to the Double-A Arkansas Travelers and White was assigned to the Triple-A Tacoma Rainiers.

Garcia was originally selected in the third round of the 2020 MLB Draft out of Chapman University, an NCAA Division-III school in Chapman, Calif.

Garcia was originally tested out as a starting pitcher in the Pirates organization. In his first three seasons of pro ball, he made 72 appearances, 54 of which were starts.

Garcia was selected by the San Francisco Giants in the minor league portion of the Rule 5 draft Dec. 6, 2023. The Giants moved the 26-year-old to the bullpen full time in 2024. He posted a 3.30 ERA and struck out 59 batters in 57.1 innings pitched across 42 outings. He struggled in his first taste of Triple-A and had a 6.04 ERA in 16 outings.

Garcia spent all of 2025 in Double-A and had an 8.04 ERA with 15 strikeouts in 15.2 innings pitched across 14 appearances. He was released June 1, 2025.

White was picked in the 26th round of the 2019 MLB Draft out of Siena College. He was with the organization for six years before he was released July 21, 2025. Last season, he had a 7.24 ERA and struck out 27 hitters in 32.1 innings pitched in 27 outings.

White made his major league debut in 2023 and had a 5.09 ERA, fanning 44 batters in 40.2 innings pitched across 33 outings (two starts).

White and Garcia will both likely be brought over to the major league camp at some point this spring. At best, Seattle will have two arms with potential it can try and develop into being serviceable major leaguers. At worst, the Mariners will have two arms with more than a decade of collective professional experience in the minor leagues in a pinch.
