PEORIA, Ariz. — Even with more than a dozen players currently competing in the 2026 World Baseball Classic, the Seattle Mariners entered Saturday with a hefty spring training roster.
The Mariners trimmed the roster down Saturday before a game against the Chicago White Sox. The M's re-assigned three players to minor league camp: left-handed pitcher Austin Kitchen, outfielder Victor Labrada and right-handed pitcher Teddy McGraw.
The moves left Seattle's spring training roster at 71 players — the 40-man roster (plus Logan Evans on the 60-day injured list) and 30 non-roster invitees.
Kitchen is entering his second full season with the Mariners organization. He spent all of last year with the Triple-A Tacoma Rainiers and posted a 3.36 ERA with 53 strikeouts in 69.2 innings pitched across 48 appearances (one start). He has four major league outings (one start) under his belt, which all came in 2024 with the Miami Marlins.
Kitchen didn't register an appearance in a Cactus League game this spring after having six last year.
Labrada is coming off his best professional season, which ended in Triple-A. He slashed .281/.403/.405 with an .808 OPS in 128 games with Tacoma and the Double-A Arkansas Travelers in 2025. He hit 24 doubles, four triples and seven home runs with 52 RBIs and stole 44 bases in 55 attempts.
Labrada played in five Cactus League games this spring, went 3-for-5, drew a walk, scored four runs and had one steal in two attempts. It was the most games he's appeared in spring training since signing with Seattle as an international free agent in 2021.
Labrada has been dealing with an oblique injury, which has limited his playing time.
McGraw, a former third-round pick in the 2023 MLB Draft, boasts some of the best stuff in the team's farm system but has been limited with injuries in his career.
The former Wake Forest product and No. 13 prospect in the Mariners organization (per MLB Pipeline) had a 3.18 ERA and fanned 33 batters in 28.1 innings pitched in 14 appearances (12 starts) with the Arizona Complex League squad and High-A Everett AquaSox last year.
McGraw hasn't appeared in a Cactus League game this spring due to biceps tendinitis. He's had two career Tommy John surgeries and has dealt with other respective injuries which have limited his time on the mound each of the last two seasons.
Seattle is extended a runway with the WBC taking place, but will likely make more cuts as more competitors in the international tournament begin returning to camp.
