The Seattle Mariners have been very fortunate when it comes to pitcher health in the last two seasons, as evidenced by a recent list put out by Codify Baseball on social media.

The M's have used the fewest starting pitchers in baseball over the last two years, which is a big reason why they were in playoff contention until the final week of the season in 2024 and advanced to the American League Championship Series in 2025.

While the M's have been fortunate to not have to use a high volume of pitchers in those two seasons, they haven't been immune from injury completely.

Bryan Woo was on the injured list at the outset of 2024 and the end of 2025, while Luis Castillo was on the injured list at the end of 2024. George Kirby, Bryce Miller and Logan Gilbert each missed time in 2025, with all three pitchers missing more than a month.

Those five starters remain the bedrock of the organization, but the M's have also had games started by Logan Evans, Emerson Hancock, Jhonathan Diaz, another Luis Castillo and Casey Legumina.

Legumina's start came as an opener in 2025.

Moving forward

The Mariners will continue to rely on their five starters in 2026, as long as they hang onto all of them through the offseason, but they do have a nice group of youngsters budding at the minor league levels.

Jurrangelo Cijntje, the first-round pick in 2024, ended his season at Double-A Arkansas while Ryan Sloan, a second-round pick in 2024, ended his season at High-A Everett. Kade Anderson, the team's first-round pick in 2025 (LSU), could shoot through the minor leagues and reach the big leagues as early as 2026, but he should be a serious big-league option in 2027.

Hancock and Evans remain immediate depth should injury strike the rotation again in early 2026.

The rest of the offseason

With Josh Naylor already locked up for the next five years, the Mariners can move onto trying to re-sign or replace Eugenio Suarez and Jorge Polanco. We recently heard Polanco has interest from the Boston Red Sox.
