The free agent, who was given a qualifying offer by the Mariners, was one of the best performers in the American League.
Congratulations are in order for free agent outfielder Randy Arozarena, who was named as one of the outfield finalists for the American League Silver Slugger Award on Thursday.
Arozarena, 31, put together an excellent season for the Seattle Mariners in 2026, hitting .281 with a .381 on-base percentage. He had 26 home runs, 79 RBIs and 26 stolen bases, practically carrying one of the league's worst offenses. He had an OPS+ of 148 and an OPS of .865. He also led the American League in runs scored with 113.
Arozarena put together his second straight 25-25 season for the Mariners. Both of those seasons saw him represent the Mariners at the All-Star Game.
This is the fourth time that Arozarena has been named a finalist for the Silver Slugger, but he is looking for his first win.
The American League gets three outfielder Silver Slugger winners, so Arozarena is in competition with Wilyer Abreu (Boston Red Sox), Jac Caglianone (Kansas City Royals), Riley Greene (Detroit Tigers), Tristan Peters (Chicago White Sox), Chandler Simpson (Tampa Bay Rays) and Mike Trout (Los Angeles Angels).
About the situation moving forward for Arozarena and the Mariners
Arozarena was acquired by the Mariners at the trade deadline in 2024 with the M's knowing that he had 2.5 years left of team control on his contract. Arozarena helped the M's to the American League Championship Series in 2025 and put together this solid year in 2026, and now he is one of the most coveted free agents on the market this winter.
The Mariners offered him a qualifying offer earlier this week, which he is expected to decline. Assuming Arozarena does decline the one-year contract offer, the Mariners will get draft pick compensation when he signs somewhere else.
Arozarena has until Nov. 17 to decline the offer officially, which gives him a little less than two weeks.
Of course, nobody knows exactly how things will look for Arozarena on the market since the league is expected to shut down on Dec. 1 over labor issues.
Arozarena trying to join Mariners history
The following Mariners have won the Silver Slugger Award:
Cal Raleigh, Julio Rodriguez, Nelson Cruz, Ichiro Suzuki, Bret Boone, Edgar Martinez, Ken Griffey Jr., Alex Rodriguez.
The Silver Slugger Award has existed since 1980 and it's actually a relatively light list in terms of Mariners players. Arozarena would only be the ninth player in team history to ever win it.
