Infielder/outfielder Michael Arroyo will get added to the major league roster before the Mariners' fourth game of the series against their American League West rivals.

The story was updated at 11:15 a.m. PT to reflect Arroyo playing second base in his major league debut after the release of the Mariners lineup.

The Seattle Mariners likely saw the end of their postseason hopes following a 6-2 loss against the Athletics on Saturday at T-Mobile Park.

The defeat gave the Mariners three-straight losses against their American League West rivals, and a possibly insurmountable hill to climb when it comes to its hopes of back-to-back postseason berths.

Seattle is still looking for a jolt to its team and offense despite that fact and seems to be looking toward its top pitching prospect to do just that.

According to a post on "X" from MLB.com reporter Daniel Kramer, infielder/outfielder Michael Arroyo is currently in the team's clubhouse at T-Mobile Park and will be activated to the team's major league roster ahead of the Mariners series finale against the A's at 1:10 p.m. PT on Sunday.

According to a subsequent post on "X" from Mariners PR, corner infielder Patrick Wisdom was optioned to the Triple-A Tacoma Rainiers in a corresponding move.

Arroyo is ranked as the 45th-best prospect in baseball, per MLB Pipeline and has drawn praise due to his elite bat-to-ball tool.

The 21-year-old, who was originally signed as an international free agent out of Colombia on Jan. 15, 2022, (and has gone on to represent his native country in the World Baseball Classic since), has been one of the most consistent hitters in Seattle's farm system since being signed.

Since being promoted to the Triple-A Tacoma Rainiers on July 7, Arroyo has slashed .277/.353/.490 with an .843 OPS in 49 games and has hit 11 doubles, four triples and eight home runs with 41 RBIs.

Across the entire season, which includes a first-half spent with the Double-A Arkansas Travelers, Arroyo has posted a slash line of .283/.359/.471 with an .830 OPS in 114 games and has hit 23 doubles, five triples and 18 homers with 81 RBIs and has stolen 17 bases in 21 attempts.

As for the position Arroyo will play, that's a bigger question mark.

Arroyo's natural position is second base. But, with Cole Young entrenched as the starter, the team opted to test Arroyo out as a left fielder the second half of last year and most of this season. His hit tool could also lead to him getting nods at designated hitter.

This year, Arroyo has played 357 innings across 44 games (41 starts) at second base and 572.2 innings across 66 games (all starts) in left field.

Per a lineup released soon after Arroyo was officially selected, he'll play second base and bat eighth in the order in his major league debut Sunday. Young will get a day off.
