According to a report from ESPN's Jeff Passan, the Texas Rangers are finalizing a trade that will send Marcus Semien to the New York Mets in return for outfielder Brandon Nimmo

The Seattle Mariners made the first big splash of the offseason by re-signing first baseman Josh Naylor to a five-year, $92.5 million contract Nov. 17.

The Mariners American League West rivals, the Texas Rangers, are reportedly making their own splash.

According to a report on "X" from ESPN's MLB insider Jeff Passan on Sunday, the Rangers and New York Mets are reportedly finalizing a deal that would send second baseman/shortstop Marcus Semien to the Mets in return for outfielder Brandon Nimmo.

Nimmo had a full no-trade clause but waived it for the deal

Semien, 35-years-old, has been one of Texas' best players since he signed a seven-year, $175 million with the organization ahead of the 2022 season. He's been named an All-Star twice in that span (2023-24) and helped lead the organization to its first-ever World Series championship in '23. He won a Gold Glove award for his performance this past season.

In 2025, Semien scored 62 runs in 127 games and hit 16 doubles, a triple and 15 home runs with 62 RBIs. He slashed .230/.305/.364 with a .669 OPS. He was placed on the injured list Aug. 23 (retroactive to Aug. 22) with a left foot contusion and missed the rest of the season.

Semien is owed $26 million in 2026-27, respectively, and $20 million in '28.

Nimmo, who was picked by New York in the first round of the 2011 MLB Draft, has been with the Mets the entirety of his major league career from 2016-25. He signed an eight-year, $162.5 million contract with New York ahead of the 2023 season. He'll be paid $20.5 million a season from 2026-2030.

This past season, Nimmo scored 81 runs in 155 games and hit 27 doubles and 25 home runs with 92 RBIs. He slashed .262/.324/.436 with a .760 OPS.

Nimmo has a career slash line of .262/.364/.438 with an .802 OPS.

Semien became the latest featured player from the Rangers' 2023 squad the organization has parted with this offseason.

Texas non-tendered outfielder Adolis Garcia and catcher Jonah Heim earlier this week.

The Rangers have missed the playoffs in both seasons since their World Series win and based on recent moves, it seems 2026 will be used as a year to rebuild/retool for Texas.
