The Mariners rallied to beat the Houston Astros 8-7 at T-Mobile Park, improving to 6-9 on the young season.

The Seattle Mariners rallied from five runs down to beat the Houston Astros 8-7 on Saturday night at T-Mobile Park.

J.P. Crawford's walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth inning capped off the wild victory, which improved the M's to 6-9 on the young season.

The loss dropped Houston to the same record and assured the Mariners of at least a split in the four-game series.

Now, the Mariners will go for the series win on Sunday afternoon (1:10 p.m. PT).

While the win was much needed, it wasn't necessarily pretty. The Mariners offense still only had seven hits, benefiting from seven Houston walks, and the M's pitching staff allowed a whopping 17 hits of its own.

In fact, the Mariners made history with this win not seen in nearly 100 years, according to @OptaSTATS:

Tonight the @Mariners: faced a 5+ run deficit but still won

got outhit by 10 or more but still won

No MLB team had done both in the same game since the Indians against the Yankees on July 27, 1932.

That's not a script that Dan Wilson's team necessarily wants to follow, but they will take it in this case. Seattle had lost five straight games before the Astros series started, but they've been able to capitalize on the Astros pitching woes.

Crawford went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two walks in the win, while Cal Raleigh went 1-for-3 with three RBIs, hitting his first homer of the season. Julio Rodriguez went 2-for-4, also hitting his first homer, so maybe this is a sign that the M's offensive freeze is ending.

On the negative side for Seattle, starting pitcher Luis Castillo struggled for the second consecutive outing. He went 3.1 innings, giving up seven earned runs on 10 hits. After a dynamite first start of the season against the New York Yankees, he now has a 6.92 ERA through three starts.

The M's bullpen was solid in the win, with Casey Legumina, Jose Ferrer, Eduard Bazardo, Matt Brash and Andres Munoz combining to throw 5.2 scoreless innings. Munoz got the win.

The Mariners and Astros will play game three of the series on Sunday as Logan Gilbert takes the mound for the fourth time this season. He's still winless at 0-2 with a 5.40 ERA, though he did register a quality start in his last time out against the Texas Rangers.

The Astros will counter with Cody Bolton.
