SEATTLE — The Seattle Mariners bats woke up after a quiet weekend in a comeback, 6-3 win against the San Francisco Giants on Sunday at T-Mobile Park.

The Mariners put up their six runs on 11 hits. It was more than double the total amount the M's had in its games the previous two days against the Giants, which the two sides split.

Seattle earned its first series win of the second half of the season, improved back to .500 (50-50) and pulled to within a half-game behind the Texas Rangers for first place in the American League West.

San Francisco went up 2-0 in the top of the first after designated hitter Bryce Eldridge hit a solo home run and left fielder Heliot Ramos hit an RBI single.

The Giants' early lead maintained through the top of the fourth.

The Mariners tied the game 2-2 in the bottom of the fourth with respective RBI singles from first baseman Josh Naylor and right fielder Weston Wilson.

San Francisco retook the lead in the top of the fifth after an RBI double from second baseman Luis Arraez.

Arraez's double avenged two strikeouts earlier in the game against Seattle starting pitcher Logan Gilbert. It was the first time since July 3, 2024, that Arraez, a multi-time batting champion, has struck out twice in a game.

Gilbert was able to limit the damage to the aforementioned three runs and finished with a quality start. He struck out 10, walked one and allowed his three earned runs on four hits (one homer) in six innings pitched.

"He's a good player, obviously," Gilbert said after the game. "I didn't know it was two years. (Bryce Miller) told me when I came out (Arraez) didn't strike out twice this season. And I didn't know it was for two years. The splitter for me was a good option because he's so good with two strikes, you have to throw something unpredictable. We saw the next at-bat with the slider, he can just put bat-on-ball."

Gilbert's strong outing kept the Mariners within striking distance to eventually set up their comeback.

In the bottom of the fifth, with runners on the corners and no outs, catcher Cal Raleigh grounded into a 5-4-3 double play that brought home second baseman Cole Young from third and tied the game 3-3.

In the bottom of the sixth, right fielder Luke Raley, pinch-hitting for Wilson, hit a solo home run to give Seattle the 4-3 lead. It was the second pinch-hit homer of Raley's career. The first was in 2023 when he was with the Tampa Bay Rays, which also came against the Giants.

It was Raley's first homer since June 11 against the Baltimore Orioles.

Raley, in the game the day before, saw a significant amount of changeups and off-speed pitches. He worked with hitting coach Kevin Seitzer before the game today in efforts of being more prepared if he saw one Sunday.

Raley's Sunday homer was on a changeup thrown by reliever Adrian Houser.

"Hitting a home run always feels good," Raley said in a postgame interview Sunday. "But I feel like the last couple weeks, I've been making better contact, so it's been trending up. It's nice to finally see one leave." 

The bullpen was able to keep San Francisco off the board and Young put the game away for good in the bottom of the seventh with a two-run homer to right-center field. It was the second multi-run homer for Young in as many games.

With the victory, the Mariners are winners of three of their last four games. Seattle will look to keep the momentum going in the second series of the homestand, a three-game series against the Cincinnati Reds.

"Three runs were scored on the homers, and three runs were scored traditionally," M's manager Dan Wilson said in a postgame interview. "That's a solid offense. That's a balanced offense. You need all those runs, particularly late in the game there. ... It just comes down to getting good at-bats and getting a good pitch to hit, and that's what our guys did today."

Game one of the series will begin at 6:40 p.m. PT on Monday at T-Mobile Park.

George Kirby will start for the Mariners and Andrew Abbott will start for the Reds.
