Through no faults of their own, Seattle Mariners prospects Ryan Sloan and Kade Anderson fell in the latest 'Baseball America Top 100 rankings.'

Sloan is still rated as the No. 6 prospect in the sport, a great accomplishment for a 20-year-old who was only drafted two years ago.

Anderson is down to No. 8, another great accomplishment for a player who was drafted just last July and is currently in his first year of professional baseball.

Both players slid a spot in the rankings because of No. 1 draft pick Roch Cholowsky, who immediately slots in as the new No. 5 prospect. He was taken by the Chicago White Sox out of UCLA. A shortstop, Cholowsky is expected to help continue the revitalization of the White Sox, who are currently tied for first place in the American League Central.

Drafted No. 3 overall out of LSU in the 2025 draft, Anderson has barreled through the Double-A ranks in his first exposure to professional baseball.

He's 8-1 with a 1.36 ERA in 14 starts. In 72.2 innings, he has 108 strikeouts and just 10 walks, and opponents are hitting only .160 against him. He just represented the Mariners in the Futures Game, throwing a scoreless inning.

He's been absolutely sensational and profiles as a solid starter at the big league level. That said, his first exposure to the big leagues might come as a bullpen arm. As the Mariners chase a second straight American League West title, Anderson could be an option for the 'pen down the stretch, pairing with Jose Ferrer and Gabe Speier to give them three left-handers.

Some of his opportunities will be dictated by how the Mariners handle their starting pitching glut at the big-league level. They could move a member of the rotation to the bullpen, or perhaps they could move someone in a trade.

A second-round pick in 2024, Sloan is also playing at Double-A Arkansas. Still just 20 years old, Sloan is having a bigger adjustment to the level than Anderson is, but he's still had excellent moments. He's 2-2 with a 4.04 ERA in 62.1 innings. He's struck out 77 batters and walked just 12. Opponents are hitting .255 off him.

He's the youngest pitcher in Double-A this year, and also just represented the Mariners at the Futures Game, also delivering a scoreless outing.

While there's a chance that he could contribute this season, there's also something that could limit his opportunity.
