By this point, you're all aware of what happened on Tuesday night between the Seattle Mariners and Chicago White Sox. 

We've covered the piggyback situation a lot over the last few days, and you all know the Mariners lost 2-1 as they attempted to let Luis Castillo finish out the game in the top of the ninth instead of going to closer Andres Munoz.

As I wrote on Friday, I was initially a fan of the piggyback situation in theory, but after seeing it in practice, I no longer am. And as I said on the most recent edition of the 'Refuse to Lose Territory' podcast, the M's now need to have a tough conversation and make an awkward decision. 

"I think the Mariners just need to have a tough conversation with Luis Castillo, and I think they have to make what I think is a clunky decision.

We always say that these things will find a way to work themselves out. They haven't worked themselves out. The way it works itself out is, I think, Luis Castillo just has to go to the bullpen.

And I don't love it. I don't think that it will work all that great. I've said that before. I'm not a fan of Luis Castillo in the bullpen. But there aren't any other options left on the board.

The Mariners shouldn't want to trade Luis Castillo. I don't know that he's tradeable at this point. The Mariners should not DFA Luis Castillo. The Mariners can't create an injury to put him on the injured list. I don't believe the piggyback is the answer. I don't believe that Luis Castillo is better than Bryce Miller right now for the starting rotation.

The only answer now is Luis Castillo in the bullpen.

And I've held out as long as I could, but now it is time. And it's clunky. It's odd. I don't know if Luis Castillo is the long mop-up guy and Cooper Criswell is ascending into leverage again. I don't know if that means that Luis Castillo all of a sudden is a leverage guy or that you can put in the 7th inning.

He looked pretty good in the 7th inning, striking out the side against the White Sox, but I don't know how it's going to work. It's clunky. It's awkward. It's odd.

But I think it's what needs to happen now because it's not going to be as clunky, awkward, or odd as what we saw on Tuesday night in that 2-1 loss against the White Sox.

I just think the Mariners did it the right way in terms of trying to be sensitive to Castillo's feelings. Now they need to do it the right way in terms of being sensitive to the other 25 guys that are trying to win the World Series -- and Castillo is as well.

But they need to be sensitive to the one clubhouse that is trying to win moving forward."
