SEATTLE -- The Seattle Mariners have scored nine runs in the first two games of the season, which is generally a fine output.
However, the way they've scored those nine runs has been quite unique. The M's have scored all their runs via the home run so far, getting four solo homers in Thursday's 6-4 loss and multi-run blasts in Friday's 5-1 victory against the Cleveland Guardians.
They've also failed to record even one single, putting them in a historic class all their own of the last 125 years, according to Sarah Langs of MLB.com:
The Mariners are the first team since at least 1900 without a single through their first two games of a season

The Mariners have home runs from Brendan Donovan, Dominic Canzone (2), Luke Raley (2) and Cole Young. They also have doubles from Randy Arozarena and Donovan, as well as a triple from Leo Rivas.
At some point, the Mariners will hit a single, and this will have just been a fun footnote, but the interesting note is this. After losing Jorge Polanco and Eugenio Suarez in the offseason, the assumption was that the M's would be better at stringing hits together and would be less reliant on power.
But the opposite has been the case so far. Will the surge continue? Will Raley continue to his bounce back season? It all remains to be seen.
The Mariners and Guardians will play game three of the series on Saturday night with first pitch coming at 6:40 p.m. PT.
Bryan Woo will take the mound for his first start of the season while Joey Cantillo pitches for Cleveland. Given that Cantillo is a lefty, we'll likely get our first looks at Rob Refsnyder and Victor Robles for the season. It's quite possible that Mitch Garver catches for the first time this season as well.
Seattle Mariners left fielder Randy Arozarena (56) leads off second base during the sixth inning against the Cleveland Guardians at T-Mobile Park. Steven Bisig-Imagn Images--The Mariners bullpen was much better on Friday than it had been on Saturday. Eduard Bazardo, Matt Brash and Andres Munoz combined to throw three scoreless innings. Speaking of Bazardo, he won the World Baseball Classic with Venezuela this March. We spoke to him about that experience and what it meant to him before Thursday's season opener.
--M's catcher Cal Raleigh, who hit 60 home runs last season, is 0-for-7 with seven strikeouts to start this season. He does have a walk.
