Just as Ryan Sloan and Kade Anderson did before him, Seattle Mariners prospect Michael Arroyo got some love from the prospect gurus at MLB Pipeline on Monday.
The outlet ranked him as the No. 2 second base prospect in the sport, behind only former No. 1 overall draft pick Travis Bazzana of the Cleveland Guardians.
Arroyo was the No. 63 prospect in baseball and one of seven M's players in the MLB Top 100 at the end of 2025. He joined Colt Emerson, Anderson, Lazaro Montes, Sloan, Jonny Farmelo and Jurrangelo Cijntje in the Top 100. He could make his major league debut as early as this season.
Signed as an international free agent by the Mariners in January of 2022, Arroyo is a pure hitter. At 5'10, he's drawn physical comparisons to Jose Ramirez, and he's hit well at each stop up the ladder. Last season at a combination of High-A Everett and Double-A Arkansas, he hit .262 with 17 home runs, 54 RBIs and a .401 on-base percentage. He stole 12 bases, which followed up an 18-steal campaign in 2024.
While Arroyo is ranked as the No. 2 second baseman, how long will he actually stick at the position? Reports earlier this offseason indicated that he would get work in the outfield moving forward. He's not regarded as a strong defender in the infield, and given the presence of Cole Young, Colt Emerson and Ben Williamson, he may not have a future there anyways. Playing him in left field could put him in position to be the successor to Randy Arozarena, who is a free agent at the end of 2026.
Seeing where Arroyo plays in spring training - and how much - will be one of the big storylines to watch for the Mariners. However, Arroyo is expected to leave spring training to participate in the World Baseball Classic (Colombia), which will throw a wrench in the plans that the M's have for him.
--The Mariners remain in the mix for St. Louis Cardinals second baseman Brendan Donovan, with Cardinals front officer leader Chaim Bloom saying they'd like Donovan's situation resolved by spring training.
