HOUSTON, Texas -- When Josh Naylor hit a solo home run in the top of the eighth inning on Friday night, he provided more than just an insurance run for the Seattle Mariners. The first baseman, who was acquired by Seattle right before the trade deadline, also put himself in a rare group of baseball history.
Per MarinersPR:
Josh Naylor belted his 20th home run of the season to join the 20+ HR, 20+ SB club this season, having already recorded 27 stolen bases this season, but...DID YOU KNOW?...that Naylor is just the 15th first baseman (done 19x) to record a 20-20 season (min. 50% of G at 1B) in MLB history?
Naylor has been electric since being acquired by the M's from the Arizona Diamondbacks in late July. In 48 games with Seattle, he's hitting .282 with nine home runs, 28 RBIs and 16 stolen bases. He's shown a leadership quality, a clubhouse presence, a toughness, and a solid defensive ability at first base.
He'll be a free agent at the end of the season, and Mariners' leadership has said they are interested in bringing him back. He's spoken highly of his time in Seattle thus far.
Naylor's blast was one of four solo homers that the Mariners hit in the 4-0 win. Julio Rodriguez, Eugenio Suarez and Victor Robles each connected for shots to left field. The Mariners moved to 85-69 on the season and now lead the Astros by one game in the American League West race.

Erik Williams-Imagn ImagesWith eight games to play in the regular season, Seattle is looking for its first division title since 2001. One win in the final two against Houston this weekend would give the Mariners the season-long tiebreaker, and would effectively give them another game buffer in the standings.
The two teams will play again on Saturday afternoon with first pitch coming at 4:10 p.m. PT. George Kirby will pitch for the Mariners while Framber Valdez takes the mound for the Astros.
The series will conclude on Sunday as part of ESPN's 'Sunday Night Baseball.' First pitch is also scheduled for 4:10 p.m. PT.
