The Mariners offense accomplished something for just the third time in team history Wednesday

SEATTLE — Sept. 25, 2025, will be a day that is permanently etched into the history of the Seattle Mariners.

The Mariners beat the Colorado Rockies 9-2 at T-Mobile Park in front of a crowd of over 43,000. The victory clinched an American League West for Seattle — it's first division crown in 24 years.

The Mariners clinched a playoff berth the day before and knew going into the game that it would need to either win or the Houston Astros would need to lose to earn the division banner, and the M's made sure to keep their fate in their own hands.

Seattle broke out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning via a trio of home runs. Catcher Cal Raleigh, center fielder Julio Rodriguez and second baseman Jorge Polanco were responsible for the three solo home runs.

Polanco's home etched this year's Mariners lineup into franchise history.

Polanco's blast was his 25th of the season, which gave Seattle four hitters with 25 or more home runs this year: Polanco (25), Raleigh (60, Rodriguez (32) and outfielder Randy Arozarena (27).

According to a post on "X" from Mariners PR, it's the third time in Mariners history that the team has had four hitters with 25 or more home runs in a single season.

The other two times were in 1996 (Jay Buhner, Ken Griffey Jr., Edgar Martinez, Alex Rodriguez) and 1997 (Buhner, Griffey, Martinez, Paul Sorrento).

Seattle missed the playoffs the first time the team accomplished that feat in '96, but made the American League Divisional Series in '97, where it lost in four games to the Baltimore Orioles.

The Mariners are guaranteed a top-three seed in the American League with the divisional championship, but there are still several more individual and team accomplishments the team can reach before the end of the season with four games left in the season.

Raleigh needs two more home runs to tie and three more to break the American League single-season home run record held by New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge. If he has one more multi-homer game, he'll set the MLB record for the most multi-homer games in a single season (12).

Seattle currently holds the No. 2 seed in the AL by three games over the Cleveland Guardians. If the Mariners hold on to a top-two seed, they'll earn a bye through the wild card round of the playoffs. If they win one more game, they'll reach 90 wins for the eighth time in a single season and for the third time in five seasons.

Seattle will look to sweep Colorado in the series finale at 6:40 p.m. PT on Thursday. Bradley Blalock will start for the Rockies against a to-be-determined Mariners pitcher.
