The Seattle Mariners aren't playing on Thursday, but that doesn't mean that things aren't happening in the organization.

Early in the afternoon, the M's announced a trio of roster moves: They've reinstated shortstop J.P. Crawford from the 10-day injured list. He had been sidelined most of spring training and missed the first seven games because of right shoulder inflammation.

Ryan Bliss was sent down to Triple-A Tacoma while Ryan Loutos was placed on unconditional release waivers.

The Mariners are 3-4 on the young season and will kick off their first road trip on Friday night (6:38 p.m. PT) against the Los Angeles Angels at Angel Stadium.

About Crawford

Now 31 years old, Crawford is the longest-tenured Mariner on the roster. Acquired before the 2019 season, the M's picked him up in a trade with the Philadelphia Phillies. A foundational figure in the organizational turnaround since then, Crawford won a Gold Glove Award in 2020 and serves as one of the biggest leaders in the clubhouse.

A career .248 hitter, he hit .265 in 2025, popping 12 homers and driving in 58 runs. Known for his plate discipline, he had a .352 on-base percentage and an OPS+ of 111. He'll provide the Mariners with nice stability at the bottom of the order and will be integral in turning the lineup over back to the run producers at the top.

Crawford is in the final year of his contract, and with top prospect Colt Emerson lurking, it's unclear exactly what his future in Seattle holds. Emerson just signed an eight-year contract extension worth $95 million.

Crawford played only rehab game at Triple-A Tacoma, going 0-for-4.

What about now?

According to president of baseball operations Jerry Dipoto, Crawford is still slated to play shortstop, even after Emerson's extension and eventual promotion to the big leagues.

This means that Emerson will likely play third base with Brendan Donovan moving around the diamond.

About the Mariners through seven games

Seattle's offense has failed to get going, with Cal Raleigh (4-for-25) leading baseball in strikeouts and Julio Rodriguez sitting at 2-for-26). Josh Naylor is also 1-for-27. We spoke on the latest 'Refuse To Lose' podcast with ESPN MLB Insider Buster Olney about the offensive woes, and he attributed least some of them to the trio's participation in the World Baseball Classic.

In fairness, the M's did play two playoff teams from a season ago: The Cleveland Guardians and New York Yankees. The Yankees have featured the best pitching of any team thus far.
