SEATTLE — The Seattle Mariners have a bye through the wild card round of the playoffs secured. The Mariners' final series of the regular season against the Los Angeles Dodgers, set to take place from Friday-through-Sunday at T-Mobile Park, will determine whether they enter the postseason as the No. 1 or No. 2 seed.
Seattle's starting rotation through the series against Los Angeles was in question due to the injury of ace Bryan Woo.
The 2025 All-Star has been nursing right pectoral inflammation since Sept. 19 and missed his scheduled start against the Colorado Rockies on Thursday. Starter-turned-reliever Emerson Hancock filled in for Woo, and put together four scoreless innings with seven strikeouts.
Mariners manger Dan Wilson announced in a postgame interview Thursday that George Kirby would start the series opener against the Dodgers on Friday.
In a pregame interview Friday, Wilson announced Logan Gilbert would start Game 2 on Saturday and Bryce Miller would take the mound for Game 3 on Sunday.
Gilbert's last outing was against the Houston Astros on Sept. 21. Gilbert struck out four, walked one, hit a batter and allowed one earned run on three hits (one home run) in six innings pitched.
Tyler Glasnow will get the nod for Los Angeles on Friday. Glasnow fanned seven, walked four and allowed four earned runs on six hits in five innings pitched his last start against the San Francisco Giants on Sept. 20.
In Miller's last outing against Colorado on Sept. 23, he struck out four, walked one and allowed three earned runs on five hits in 5.2 innings pitched.
Miller's adversary Sunday will be future National Baseball Hall of Famer Clayton Kershaw, who will be making the final regular season start of his legendary career.
Kershaw fanned six, walked four and allowed two earned runs on four hits (one home run) in 4.1 innings his last start against the Giants on Sept. 19. He pitched one scoreless inning out of the bullpen in a game against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sept. 24.
Gilbert has a 3.43 ERA this season with 168 strikeouts in 126 innings pitched across 24 starts. He was out from April 26-June 16 due to a right flexor strain.
Miller has posted a 5.53 ERA this year and has fanned 72 batters in 86.1 innings pitched across 17 starts. He had two stints on the injured list from May 14-31 and June 10-Aug. 19, both due to right elbow inflammation.
Seattle has yet to determine its starting rotation and order for the playoffs. Game 1 of the American League Divisional Series will take place at a to-be-determined time Oct. 4 at T-Mobile Park.
