The Seattle Mariners have a prime opportunity in front of them to win their first American League Divisional Series since 2001. The Mariners beat the Detroit Tigers 3-2 on Monday at T-Mobile Park and earned the win over defending American League Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal.
Seattle and Detroit will play Games 3 and 4 at Comerica Park in Detroit on Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively. The two teams are tied 1-1 in the best-of-five ALDS. If either the Mariners or Tigers win both Games 3 and 4, the winner will advance to the American League Championship Series. If the two teams split the pair in Detroit, the ALDS will head back to T-Mobile Park for Game 5.
Seattle's bullpen has played a major role through the first two games of the series. Game 1 starting pitcher George Kirby went five innings and Game 2 starter, Luis Castillo, threw 4.2 innings.
Despite the high-usage from the relievers, Mariners manager Dan Wilson reaffirmed that everyone will be available for the games in Detroit.
"I think we're gonna be in good shape," Wilson said in a news conference Monday. "These guys have dealt with this and have been so available all season long, especially down here towards the stretch and we're prepared for this. It's all hands on deck. This is postseason and you do what it takes.
"Everybody did enjoy a day of rest today and getting a chance to just keep the body on a low simmer today. ... I think all-in-all, we're gonna be in good shape tomorrow. In this division series, you're only playing two in a row at most and the getting another off-day, which kind of helps you reset."
In the first two games of the series, Seattle's All-Star closer Andres Munoz threw three innings; Gabe Speier threw 2.2; Matt Brash threw 1.2 and Eduard Bazardo threw 1.1.
Munoz has been perfect through his three innings of work. He's yet to allow a hit or give up a free base and has struck out three. Speier has also gone without a blemish and has fanned four without walking a batter or giving up a hit.
First pitch in Game 3 of the ALDS is set for 1:08 p.m. PT on Tuesday at Comerica Park in Detroit.
