SEATTLE — The Seattle Mariners are coming off one of their most disappointing results of the season on Friday.

The Mariners begun the second half of the year with a 7-0 loss against the San Francisco Giants. Seattle mustered just two hits and didn't have an at-bat with a runner in scoring position until the ninth inning.

The Mariners will be looking for better results at the plate and, by extension, the scoreboard in game two of the three-game series against the Giants at 5:08 p.m. PT on Saturday.

Luckily for Seattle, one of its best players will be back in the fold.

The Mariners activated center fielder Julio Rodriguez from the seven-day concussion injured list on Saturday and designated utility player Miles Mastrobuoni for assignment in a corresponding move.

Rodriguez will bat second in the order in the designated hitter spot. Luke Raley will slide from right field from center field and usual designated hitter Dominic Canzone will play in right.

"Great to get (Rodriguez) back in the lineup," Seattle manager Dan Wilson said in a pregame interview Saturday. "Obviously, what we've seen from Julio, particularly in the second half, is always dynamic."

The team will see how Rodriguez responds to the DH role before giving him the full clear to return to the field.

Rodriguez went into concussion protocol after having a throw from first base to second connect with the back of his head while he was attempting to run to second base.

The three-time All-Star was placed on the IL July 3. He's slashing .259/.323/.424 with a .747 OPS in 87 games and has hit 15 doubles and 14 home runs with 40 RBIs.

Canzone's return to the outfield also marks a favorable injury turn for him. He's been limited to the DH role due to hamstring soreness that plagued him before the All-Star Break.

"Continuing to get stronger and stronger in his hammies," Wilson said. "And that's obviously the concern there and making sure we ramp him up in a good direction as well. ... Obviously the (All-Star Break) helps too, but making sure that we're building the capacity in those legs the way we need to be."

Canzone has slashed .261/.333/.522 with an .855 OPS in 84 games this season. He's hit 13 doubles, a triple and 15 homers with 40 RBIs. His doubles, homers, games played and RBIs are all career-highs.
