The Seattle Mariners farm system is regarded as one of the best in baseball.
In 2025, the Mariners had as many as nine players in MLB Pipeline's Top 100. In the end-of-season top 100 from the website, the M's boasted seven players on that list.
Many of those players, including the organization's top prospect and infielder Colt Emerson (No. 9 MLB Pipeline), outfielder Lazaro Montes (No. 29), right-handed starting pitcher Ryan Sloan (No. 44), infielder/outfielder Michael Arroyo (No. 63) and switch-pitcher Jurrangelo Cijntje (No. 90), have been managed at various points in their careers by Zach Vincej.
Vincej had a nine-year professional career from 2012-21. He spent parts of two seasons in the major leagues with the Cincinnati Reds in 2017 and Seattle in 2018.
After playing, Vincej managed the Mariners' then-Single-A affiliate, the Modesto Nuts, from 2023-24 and the High-A Everett AquaSox in 2025.
While serving as a skipper, he led the Nuts to two consecutive California League championships in 2023-24 and then he led the AquaSox to the Northwest League championship in '25.
The multi-year minor league manager was named Baseball America's Manager of the Year in '24.
But evidently, the former Pepperdine shortstop won't serve as a skipper in the Seattle system in 2026.
The Mariners released the list of their minor league coaching staff Jan. 20 and Vincej wasn't among the list of coaches.
For Everett, Ryan Scott will be taking over as the High-A club's skipper. He was in the same role with the AquaSox from '23-24 and briefly took the job as the manager of the Double-A Arkansas Travelers in '25. Rich Thompson will take over as the Travelers' manager after previously serving as the athletic director and head baseball coach at the National College of Arkansas.
According to a report on "X" from Roundtable Sports' own Brady Farkas, Vincej is still with Seattle, but he will have a role in a "different capacity."
Vincej has been one of the team's most promising young coaches and his first-hand experience with many of the team's top prospects makes him an invaluable voice in the organization. It will be interesting to see what new role the M's find for him moving forward.
Vincej spoke with Farkas in an episode of the Refuse to Lose podcast Aug. 8, 2025. You can listed to that podcast below.
