With the World Series now over, we're onto the business of baseball for 2027.
On Wednesday, the Milwaukee Brewers won the 2026 World Series by beating the Tampa Bay Rays in five games.
It's the first World Series win for Milwaukee, leaving the Seattle Mariners as one of just four teams to never win the World Series, alongside the San Diego Padres, Colorado Rockies and Rays.
But, with the World Series now behind us, we are officially onto the business of baseball for 2027. So, here's what you need to know.
Step 1: Four players set to exit organization for free agency
The Mariners only have four pending free agents and all of them will officially exit the organization on Thursday: JP Crawford, Randy Arozarena, Taylor Ward and left-handed reliever Hoby Milner.
Step 2: The exclusive negotiating window
The Mariners will have five days to negotiate with their own free agents. It seems fairly certain that only Arozarena and Crawford have a chance to be back from this group, and it also seems fairly certain that nothing will happen between the two sides in this window.
That doesn't mean that there won't be conversations with representation for both players, but both sides likely won't be ready to commit to each other until some of the offseason plays out.
Step 3: Free agency officially begins
Nov. 2 at 2 p.m. PT is when free agency in full begins. That's when the Mariners can talk to players from other teams, and that's when Arozarena and Crawford can be contacted by other teams as well.

Oh yeah, that. The Collective Bargaining Agreement runs out on Dec. 1 at 11:59 p.m. ET, meaning that the business of baseball will likely shut down on Dec. 2 at midnight (9 p.m. PT).
Thus, the Mariners will have about one month to get transactions done before that happens. It's unclear what exactly will happen over that one month. Will teams be aggressive in signing players despite an uncertain financial climate?
Will players be aggressive in signing deals? Or, will everyone have to wait and see what things look like afterwards?
The last lockout happened in 2021 before the 2022 season. The Mariners inked reigning Cy Young winner Robbie Ray to a five-year deal before that lockout took place.
Step 5: And what about trades?
Trading! Always a favorite method of team building for the Mariners. That is open now. The trade market opens the day after the World Series, meaning Jerry Dipoto can now look to make moves to help the Mariners in 2027.
However, the M's probably need a new manager first.
