One of the Seattle Mariners best players recently took a big step forward this weekend when 2025 All-Star catcher Cal Raleigh played his first game on a rehab assignment with the High-A Everett AquaSox on Sunday.

Alas, the Mariners took a step forward and a step back in a 24 hour span.

Veteran starting shortstop J.P. Crawford was placed on the 10-day injured list Monday (retroactive to June 6), hours before the first of a four-game series against the Baltimore Orioles, with a right hand contusion.

Crawford suffered the injury when he was hit by a pitch during a game against the Detroit Tigers on Friday.

Due to the injury being retroactive to June 6, Crawford will be eligible to return for the beginning of the team's six-game homestand, which will begin June 16.

This is Crawford's second time on the injured list after he began the year on the 10-day IL due to right shoulder inflammation.

In a corresponding move, Seattle recalled infielder Ryan Bliss from the Triple-A Tacoma Rainiers.

Crawford has slashed .228/.356/.409 with a .765 OPS in 55 games and has hit five doubles and 10 home runs with 23 RBIs. He's sixth on the team in fWAR (FanGraphs Wins Above Replacement) with 1.1. He's fourth on the team with a 126 wRC+ (weighted runs created-plus).

Bliss will be with the team for the first time since he was optioned to Triple-A on April 2.

Bliss was on the Opening Day roster as an infielder off the bench. It marked the second season in a row he broke camp with the team to begin the season. Bliss played in one game with Seattle before being optioned and went 0-for-2.

The 26-year-old infielder has played the entirety of his major league career with the Mariners.

Across the last three seasons, Bliss has played a total of 45 games. She's slashed .210/.282/.360 with a .642 OPS and has hit four doubles, a triple and three homers with 12 RBIs.

In Triple-A A this season, Bliss has slashed .204/.263/.280 with a .543 OPS in 51 games and has hit 11 doubles, a triple and a home run with 15 RBIs.

Bliss will likely be available as a bat off the bench or as a pinch-runner in certain situations.

In the first lineup with Bliss back on the roster for Tuesday, Cole Young was listed at second base, Colt Emerson was listed at shortstop and Patrick Wisdom was penciled in at third base.

That lineup was edited due to Emerson being a late scratch from the lineup. Young will move over to shortstop and Bliss will play second base.
