By hitting the 82-win mark on Sunday, the Mariners have guaranteed themselves a winning campaign. This marks five consecutive seasons that the M's have had a winning season.

The Seattle Mariners routed the Los Angeles Angels 11-2 on Sunday afternoon at T-Mobile Park, winning their ninth consecutive game as a result.

Seattle is now in first place in the American League West, leading the Houston Astros by one game. Furthermore, they are three games better than the Texas Rangers, who are the first team out of the playoffs right now. The M's are closing in on their first playoff berth since 2022, and if they win the division, it will be the first time since 2001.

The Mariners are now 82-68 on the season, which means they are guaranteed to have a winning record for the fifth straight campaign. As noted on social media, that's the first time the organization has had five consecutive winning seasons.

How we got here

This has been an up-and-down Mariners season, with the team being carried (mostly) by its offense instead of (usually elite) pitching staff. The Mariners have had to overcome injuries to Logan Gilbert, Bryce Miller and George Kirby, as well as Victor Robles and Ryan Bliss, to get to this point, but with everyone but Bliss back, the team is hopeful for a deep October run.

Seattle is 31-18 in its own division and 48-27 at home. They are just 34-41 on the road, with six more road games to play.

Other

If you're wondering: The Mariners had four straight winning seasons from 2000-2003, winning 91 games, 116, 93 and 93 in that stretch, but they failed to get to five straight, going just 63-99 in 2004.

The M's also had two straight winning seasons from 1995-1996 before winning just 76 games in 1997.
