Harry Ford singled in his first career start on Saturday night for the Seattle Mariners, marking the second of two big accomplishments he earned on the day.

The Seattle Mariners lost 5-3 against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday night at T-Mobile Park, falling to 90-71 on the season with one regular season contest to go.

Though the end result was disappointing, it didn't really matter as the Mariners are already locked into the No. 2 seed in the American League playoffs.

But the game was still special on an individual front as Harry Ford recorded his first major league hit with a single to center off Tyler Glasnow in the bottom of the second inning.

Ford has been with the club since the beginning of September, but has played sparingly. He had recorded a walk-off sac fly with the big-league group, but had yet to record a hit. Now, he's done that in his first career start.

    Special moments

Ford, who grew up in the Atlanta area, was a fan of the Braves and former first baseman Freddie Freeman. Well, now that Freeman plays for the Dodgers, he was there to greet and congratulate Ford on that first hit, which made for a nice moment.

Not the only honor on the night

In addition to getting his first big-league hit, Ford was named as the Top Prospect in Triple-A on Saturday. The No. 39 prospect in the game, per MLB Pipeline, Ford hit .283 for the Tacoma Rainiers with a .408 on-base percentage in 97 games. He had 16 home runs and 74 RBIs to go along with seven stolen bases.

    Future looks bright

Current backup catcher Mitch Garver is ticketed for free agency after the season ends, paving the way for Ford to earn significantly more playing time in 2026. Cal Raleigh is, of course, the fixture behind the plate, but if the Mariners attempt to give him more designated hitter days in 2026, then Ford should get more time behind the plate.

He is a former first-round pick of the Mariners in 2021 and was the fourth member of the M's to record their first big-league hit this season, joining Rhylan Thomas, Ben Williamson and Cole Young.

    What's next

The Mariners will play the Dodgers in the regular season finale at 12:10 p.m. PT on Sunday. They'll begin the American League Divisional Round on Saturday, Oct. 4. The opponent is TBD.
