SEATTLE — The Seattle Mariners will have a familiar face on the roster for the final game of the regular season against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday at T-Mobile Park.
The Mariners recalled utility player Miles Mastrobuoni from the Triple-A Tacoma Rainiers and optioned right-handed pitcher Logan Evans to the Arizona Complex League in a corresponding move before the game Sunday.
The move came one day after Evans was activated off the 15-day injured list. The rookie hurler, who started 15 games this season entering Saturday, pitched three innings in relief in Seattle's 5-3 loss against Los Angeles. He struck out one, walked one and allowed one earned run on two hits.
Evans finished his first season in the big leagues with a 4.32 ERA and 59 strikeouts in 81.1 innings pitched across 16 appearances (15 starts).
Mastrobuoni has been up-and-down between the majors and Triple-A since he broke camp with the big league roster. He was optioned to Tacoma July 25, recalled July 31, optioned back down Aug. 15, recalled Aug. 17 (due to injury) and has been with the Rainiers since Aug. 18.
Throughout the plethora of roster moves, the near-10-year professional (drafted in 2016 by the Tampa Bay Rays) has quietly put together the best season of his career since making his debut in 2021.
This season, Mastrobuoni has scored 20 times in 75 games and has hit three doubles and a home run with 12 RBIs. He's stolen six bases in nine attempts and has slashed .248/.323/.289 with a .612 OPS. His games played, runs, RBIs, batting average, on-base percentage and OPS are all career-highs.
The versatility Mastrobuoni has provided on defense has been his biggest contribution to the club in 2025. He's played 81.2 innings at second base, 158.2 innings at third base, 41 innings in left field, 71.2 innings in right and pitched an inning. He had one error in 128 total chances this season (.992 fielding percentage) and had two outs above average (OAA), according to Baseball Savant.
Seattle clinched a bye through the wild card round of the playoffs in its penultimate regular season series against the Colorado Rockies. With their position secured, the Mariners used the series against the Dodgers to give several key players rest.
All-Star center fielder Julio Rodriguez will get an off day Sunday and Mastrobuoni will fill in for him in center field and bat ninth.
Seattle and Los Angeles will conclude the regular season against each other at 12:10 p.m. PT on Sunday at T-Mobile Park.
