The Mariners and Miller avoided an arbitration hearing with a new deal that includes a club option for 2027

The Seattle Mariners officially have all of their starting pitchers under contract for 2026.

The Mariners agreed to terms on a one-year deal with right-handed starting pitcher Bryce Miller for 2026 with a $6.075 million club option for 2027.

According to Seattle Times reporter Adam Jude, the deal for 2026 is worth $2,437,500.

Miller and Seattle were heading toward an arbitration hearing after failing to come to terms on a number for this upcoming season by the Jan. 9 deadline. The Mariners filed at $2.25 million and Miller requested a $2.625 million deal.

According to a report from Darragh McDonald of MLB Trade rumors, the option will be voided if Miller finishes top five in Cy Young voting in 2026.

The club option for '27 is an interesting decision by Seattle but it makes sense given the potential Miller has shown - and his performance this past year.

In his third year in the major leagues, Miller posted a 5.68 ERA with 74 strikeouts in 90.1 innings pitched across 18 starts. He had two separate stints on the injured list due to elbow inflammation tied to a bone spur in his throwing arm.

Despite his tumultuous regular season, Miller was able to show out when the team needed him most in the postseason.

Miller had a 2.51 ERA and fanned nine batters in 14.1 innings pitched across three outings in the playoffs. He had a quality start of three strikeouts, three walks and one earned run allowed on two hits in six innings pitched in Game 1 of the American League Championship Series against the Toronto Blue Jays on Oct. 12.

Miller's 2025 was a stark contrast to his '24, where he was one of the best starters in the American League during the second half of that season.

Miller finished '24 with a 2.94 ERA and fanned 171 batters in 180.1 innings pitched across 31 starts. He had a 1.89 ERA and fanned 73 batters in 12 outings post-All-Star Game.

Having the club option in place for '27 would allow the Mariners to avoid paying more in arbitration if Miller returns to his '24 form this upcoming season. If Miller's woes continue, the M's can decline the option and go the arbitration route again, where the team will likely pay less.

Miller is under contract through 2029. regardless This upcoming year with be Miller's first year under arbitration.

Miller will return to a starting rotation that includes past All-Stars Bryan Woo (2025), Logan Gilbert (2024), Luis Castillo (2019, 2022-23) and George Kirby (2023).

The former Texas A&M hurler has already posted clips on "X" showing him ramping up for the upcoming season. He touched as high as 98.3 miles per hour in the clips he shared to social media.
