Logan Gilbert was named the American League Pitcher of the Week on Monday.
The Seattle Mariners entered an off-day Monday coming off a 3-3 homestand that included a series win against the Baltimore Orioles and a series loss against the Boston Red Sox.
The Mariners' .500 homestand put the team one win above that win percentage on the season (40-39) and a 1.5 games-lead in the American League West over the Athletics.
Seattle starting pitcher Logan Gilbert was responsible for two of those wins.
Gilbert's two starts bookended the team's homestand, and he was recognized with a weekly honor for his showing.
The 2024 All-Star was named the American League Pitcher of the Week on Monday. It's the second time in Gilbert's career he's been named Pitcher of the Week, with the other time being for the week of July 3-9, 2023.
Gilbert is the first player to win a weekly honor since 2025 American League MVP finalist Cal Raleigh was named the Player of the Week for June 16-22, 2025.
Gilbert had a 1.35 ERA and struck out 18 batters in 13.1 innings pitched. He walked three batters, hit another and allowed two earned runs on five hits (one home run).
In his first outing against the Orioles on June 16, Gilbert fanned a season-high 10 batters, walked one, hit a batter and allowed one earned run on two hits in seven innings of work.
In his second against the Red Sox on Sunday, the 29-year-old struck out eight, walked two and allowed one earned run on three hits (one homer) in 6.1 innings pitched.
Gilbert has turned a corner over the last month and, at his current pace, could be selected to his second career All-Star Game.
From the beginning of the season through May 16, the team's Opening Day starter had a 4.45 ERA and had fanned 57 hitters in 56.2 innings pitched across 10 starts.
Since that point, Gilbert has posted a 1.49 ERA and has struck out 43 hitters in 36.1 innings of work across six outings. He's had four of his seven quality starts over that stretch.
Gilbert has a 3.29 ERA this year and has fanned 100 hitters in 93 innings pitched across 16 starts. He reached the 100-strikeout mark in latest outing. He's reached that mark in every single year in the majors since making his major league debut in 2021. He needs 16 more strikeouts to reach 1,000 career fanned batters for his career.
