The Mariners will commemorate the 25th anniversary of the 2001 history-making team.

The Seattle Mariners are making a major addition to T-Mobile Park in 2026, as the M's announced on Sunday that they are putting up a statue to commemorate the 2001 history-making team that won an American League record 116 games. This will be the 25-year anniversary of that team.

Our own Teren Kowatsch was present for the announcement at Fan Fest. The statue will feature Mark McLemore and Mike Cameron holding up the American flag, as they did when the team clinched the American League West title shortly after the tragic events of Sept. 11, 2001. The statue will be displayed inside the stadium - in the center field plaza. It will be unveiled on Sept. 3 before a game against the Athletics.

“We’re honored to commemorate one of the most meaningful moments in both American history and the history of the Mariners,” said Mariners Chairman and Managing Partner John Stanton. “Baseball has always brought communities together, and the 2001 team embodied that spirit during a time when our country needed connection, hope and healing.”

About the 2001 Mariners

After getting to the American League Championship Series in 2000 and losing in six games to the New York Yankees, the 2001 Mariners were expected to be good, but not historically good. After all, they had just lost Alex Rodriguez in free agency to the Texas Rangers and the division as a whole looked fairly strong.

However, with great pitching, veteran leadership, professionalism and the dynamic offensive package brought in by rookie Ichiro Suzuki, the M's blistered through the regular season at 116-46. Seattle had eight All-Stars and Ichiro won both the American League Rookie of the Year and the American League MVP Award.

Bret Boone hit 37 home runs and drove in 141 runs to put up one of the greatest seasons ever by a second baseman.

The M's lost in the American League Championship Series to the Yankees once again, this time falling in five games. Seattle hadn't been back to the ALCS until they did so in 2025, where they lost in seven games to the Toronto Blue Jays.

Cameron and McLemore appeared in Seattle during the 2025 playoff run, recreating the iconic moment that will be immortalized again in the statue.
