SEATTLE — The Seattle Mariners will have an opportunity to earn their second-straight series win in a rubber match against the Detroit Tigers at 1:10 p.m. PT on Thursday at T-Mobile Park in Seattle.

The Mariners had a unique lineup for its rubber match against the Tigers, which featured rest days for three of its typical starters.

Utility player Brendan Donovan, first baseman Josh Naylor and catcher Cal Raleigh will all receive off-days.

The full lineup for Thursday's series finale was: Taylor Ward leading off in right field; Randy Arozarena hitting second in left; Dominic Canzone batting third in the designated hitter role; Julio Rodriguez hitting cleanup and playing center field; Cole Young in the five-hole at second base; Weston Wilson hitting sixth and playing first; Jhonny Pereda catching and hitting seventh; Leo Rivas playing third while hitting eighth and Colt Emerson slotted to bat ninth while playing shortstop.

"With (Donovan), we have to take it slowly coming out the injury," Wilson said in a pregame interview Thursday. "And, certainly, Cal has done his share. A chance to get him a (rest) today and (Naylor) the same thing. A good day (to do it). ... Want to make sure these guys are good to go. We have a lot of games ahead of us, a long road ahead of us and today was a good day for all those guys."

All three of the resting starters will be available for Seattle off the bench.

Wilson will not be in the dugout for the Mariners' rubber match against the Tigers on Thursday. He was suspended for one game and left-handed reliever Gabe Speier was suspended for three games.

In Seattle's 4-2 win against Detroit on Wednesday, Speier hit Gleyber Torres with a pitch a half-inning after Raleigh was hit in the stomach by a throw. This led to the benches and bullpens clearing and Speier and Wilson ultimately being ejected. The suspension is due to the MLB's view that the hit-by-pitch was intentional.

Speier will appeal the suspension and will be available to pitch until the final decision is levied by the MLB.

Managers are not allowed to appeal suspensions and, as such, Wilson will remain in his office in the clubhouse for Thursday's game. Bench coach Manny Acta will serve as the interim skipper for the rubber match.

There's also a possibility that, whether Speier pitches or not, emotions will boil over in the series finale.

The Tigers will have left-handed hurler Framber Valdez starting Thursday. He already has an icy relationship with several Mariners hitters from his time as a member of the M's' arch-rivals, the Houston Astros. In the past, Valdez has not been hesitant to plunk an opposing hitter when frustrated or on the wrong end of a perceived slight.

"I think there is an element to that," Wilson said. "We got to be smart. In terms of that, in terms of injuries, we don't want that to happen to any of our guys, that's for sure. At the same time, this is a tight group. We just want to be careful, keep each other safe and hopefully nothing happens today."
