Michael Arroyo and Lazaro Montes continued excellent showings in the past week for the Mariners top 100 prospects
The Seattle Mariners are currently in the midst of a four-game skid against American League West rivals the Los Angeles Angels and Texas Rangers. The M's will look to salvage one game against the Rangers in the final of the three-game set at 11:35 p.m. PT on Wednesday at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.
While the 4-8 Mariners will look to snap their losing skid on the major league side of things, several individuals on the minor league side of things have enjoyed a successful past week.
Seattle's top pitching prospect, Kade Anderson (No. 18 MLB Pipeline top 100), enjoyed a stellar minor league debut in a game with the Double-A Arkansas Travelers on April 3.
Two other top 100 prospects, utility player Michael Arroyo (No. 63 MLB Pipeline) and outfielder Lazaro Montes (No. 40 MLB Pipeline), had solid games for the Travelers in a 4-2 win against the Wichita Wind Surge on Tuesday.
Montes hit his first home run of the season — a 113-mile-per-hour solo shot in the top of the second that cut Arkansas' deficit to 2-1.
Montes finished the game 1-for-3 with an RBI, which came from his solo shot. It was his second consecutive game with a hit.
Arroyo's homer, his second of the season, was a solo shot in the bottom of the sixth that tied the game 2-2.
Both players are four games deep into the 2026 season. Arroyo is scheduled to make his major league debut in 2026 and Montes is scheduled to make his first appearance in the big leagues in 2027, according to MLB Pipeline.
Seattle Mariners shortstop Michael Arroyo runs after a two-run home run against the San Diego Padres on Feb. 20 at the Peoria Sports Complex in Peoria, Ariz. | Matt Kartozian/Imagn Images.Arroyo received a significant look in Cactus League play before and after a brief sabbatical in the World Baseball Classic with his native Colombia. The Mariners seemed open to the idea of Arroyo playing his way onto the major league roster in the spring but opted with a second base/third base combo of Cole Young and Brendan Donovan, respectively.
Seattle has also attempted to give Arroyo a look in the outfield. So far this spring, Arroyo has played second base in three games and left field in one.
Montes is considered one of, if not the best power-hitters in the minor leagues. But his fit with the team is more of a question mark due to the number of right fielders on the roster. Rob Refsnyder, Victor Robles, Luke Raley and Dominic Canzone are all capable of playing in right and 2025 All-Star and utility player Brendan Donovan can also play in right if need be.
Due to the current construction of the roster, it's not a guarantee that either will be called up to the big leagues this season. But a good showing in Double-A and a potential subsequent promotion to Triple-A would help both players make a case for it.
