Seattle Mariners right fielder Victor Robles did his part to help the Mariners' ailing offense on Sunday afternoon, making some organizational history not seen since 2019 in the series finale against the Cleveland Guardians.
As noted by Mariners PR, Robles is the first M's player with two-plus hits and three-plus stolen bases in a game since 2019, when Mallex Smith accomplished the feat against the Texas Rangers.
Robles singled in the sixth inning, then stole second and third base before scoring on an infield single from Julio Rodriguez. That was the Mariners fourth run of the game, snapping a streak of 13 consecutive games without scoring at least four. That was a franchise record for offensive futility.
It's been a tough season for Robles, who entered the year as part of a short-side platoon against left-handed pitching, and then promptly got injured in early April. As of this posting, he's hitting .250 with just a .284 on-base percentage and a .565 OPS. He has six stolen bases, which is important considering the Mariners lineup is so home run dependent.
Robles got a rare start against a right-hander on Sunday, taking the place of Luke Raley and Dominic Canzone, who are both nursing injuries. Perhaps his performance will give him more opportunity in the coming days.
The Mariners will return home after Sunday's game to start an odd three-game series with the Los Angeles Angels at T-Mobile Park. The two division rivals will play on Monday and Tuesday before taking Wednesday off for World Cup action at Lumen Field.
The series will wrap up on Thursday before the Mariners host the Toronto Blue Jays as part of the July 4 holiday weekend.
The Blue Jays eliminated the Mariners from the American League Championship Series in 2025, winning the series in seven excruciating games. The Mariners held 2-1 and 3-2 series leads in that series. Toronto went onto lose the World Series in seven games against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
