WASHINGTON D.C. -- Despite heat indexes in the 100s earlier in the day and a two-hour rain delay that put the game in doubt, the Seattle Mariners stayed focused in Friday night's 10-2 drubbing of the Washington Nationals at Nationals Park.

With the win, the M's are now 37-34 and they remain in first place in the American League West by two games over the Texas Rangers. 

Here's what you need to know:

Canzone started off the scoring in the second inning with a two-run triple off the wall in centerfield. He then added a solo home run in the top of the eighth. It was his 10th of the season. As noted by Adam Jude of the Seattle Times, he was hitting .308 in his last 71 at-bats entering Friday's game and he remains one of the best power threats on the roster.

Despite enduring a two-hour rain delay, Miller came out and tamed the Nationals right from the first inning. He surrendered a leadoff single to James Wood and then erased him on an inning-ending double play.

After that, he was in cruise control. He went eight full innings, marking the first time in his career that he's ever recorded an out in the eighth inning as a starting pitcher. He surrendered just two runs on four hits while striking out seven. The velocity remained high, as he continuously pumped fastballs in the mid-to-upper 90s. 

With the win, Miller is now 3-0 with a 1.32 ERA. He's struck out 36 batters in 34.0 innings this season and also hit the 400-strikeout mark for his career.

Arozarena, who sparked that five-run second inning with a single to right field, was injured in the top of the third inning after trying to leg out an infield single. He was thrown out at first but also lunged for the bag. As he was tended to by team trainers, it looked like Arozarena's hamstring or left knee were bothering him.

If Arozarena is forced to miss time, that would be a big blow for an M's offense already missing Cal Raleigh, Brendan Donovan and JP Crawford. He has 18 doubles and 19 steals this season and is positioned to make his second straight All-Star Game.

Buster Olney of ESPN recently told the 'Refuse to Lose Territory' podcast that Arozarena is headed for MVP votes this season.

UPDATE: 12:05 a.m. ET: Manager Dan Wilson spoke after the game and delivered a better-than-expected update on Arozarena.

The 20-year-old infielder, who missed three games earlier this week with back spasms, hit his fifth home run of the season in that five-run second inning. He deposited a high fastball in the right-centerfield seats. That ball went over 400 feet and Emerson continues to show why he's one of the highest-rated prospects in baseball.

Robles, a former top prospect with the Nationals who won a World Series in 2019, got a nice round of applause from the fans and a pregame video tribute from the organization. Robles was DFA'd by Washington in 2024 and signed with the Mariners, becoming an impact player in that campaign and signing a two-year contract extension through this season.

Though he didn't start, he entered the game for Arozarena and continued to get nice ovations throughout his at-bats. It was his first time back in Washington since leaving.

The youngster, who has assumed the leadoff role with Crawford out of the lineup, followed up his three-hit performance from Thursday with a 2-for-5 in this contest. He's now hitting .258 with a .686 OPS and is vying for his first All-Star appearance in his first full season. 

Naylor, who has really struggled in the slugging department lately, hit a two-out home run in the ninth inning. It was his eighth of the season and is a welcome sight for a lineup that might have to deal with an Arozarena absence moving forward.
