The Seattle Mariners beat the Baltimore Orioles 6-3 on Monday night at Camden Yards, improving to 35-32 on the season.

Seeking their second straight American League West crown, the Mariners lead the division by two games over the Texas Rangers. 

Monday's win featured a grand slam by Josh Naylor and a historic defensive play from Julio Rodriguez, and while it also featured some tightrope pitching by Emerson Hancock and every member of the bullpen, it was ultimately enough to preserve the win.

As noted by Inside Edge on "X," the Mariners are now 141-23 when scoring five runs or more since the 2024 season. That is the fifth-best winning percentage (.860) in baseball over that span. The league average winning percentage when scoring five runs or more is .800. 

Obviously, in those situations, the focus is usually on the offense, but it is also a reminder of just how good the M's pitching staffs have been over the last two-plus seasons.

When the group has been able to get run support, they've been able to hold leads in most cases. The 2024 team was anchored by a dominant starting rotation of Logan Gilbert, George Kirby, Luis Castillo, Bryce Miller and Bryan Woo, a group that performed well and also stayed healthy. It also featured a bullpen that was anchored by All-Star Andres Munoz. The 2024 team missed the playoffs by a game, but the pitching performances were strong despite not having Matt Brash, who missed the entire season with Tommy John surgery.

In 2025, the M's pitching took more beatings, as Gilbert, Kirby, Miller and Woo all spent time on the injured list, but the bullpen group of Munoz, Gabe Speier, Brash and Eduard Bazardo were able to emerge and the M's advanced to the American League Championship Series.

This year, the pitching performances have been uneven at times, but Hancock (5-2, 2.74 ERA), has emerged as a possible All-Star.

With Kade Anderson and Ryan Sloan coming in the farm system, the hope is that the Mariners can continue to live near the top of this leaderboard for years to come.

The Mariners and Orioles will play again on Tuesday afternoon with first pitch coming at 3:35 p.m. ET. Logan Gilbert will pitch against Trevor Rogers.
