Miami Marlins ace Sandy Alcántara will join fellow countryman Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Toronto Blue Jays first baseman, in playing for Team Dominican Republic at the 2026 World Baseball Classic.
The Dominican Baseball Federation announced earlier this week numerous additional all-star players who will represent the Dominican Republic at the upcoming Classic. They include San Diego Padres right-fielder Fernando Tatis Jr.; Pittsburgh Pirates centerfielder Oneil Cruz; and left-hander Cristopher Sánchez of the Philadelphia Phillies.
White Sox reliever Seranthony Domínguez and free-agent first baseman Carlos Santana also have been added to Team DR's roster, the DBF announced Thursday.
The Dominican Republic will first face Nicaragua in the WBC's Pool D on March 6 at 7 p.m. ET at loanDepot park in Miami.
Alcántara, a 2022 Cy Young Award winner and two-time All-Star, is reportedly working himself back into form this offseason. The Marlins' veteran right-hander returned to the mound last season after sitting out 2024 to recover from Tommy John surgery.
