The Miami Marlins will have eight prospects representing the organization on the 2026 Arizona Fall League roster, giving several of the club’s up-and-coming players an opportunity to gain valuable experience against some of the top talent in the minors.
On Tuesday, Major League Baseball announced the rosters for the 2026 Arizona Fall League (AFL) season, with eight Miami Marlins prospects named to the league.
For the Marlins, the eight players selected will represent the organization during the fall portion of the baseball calendar. The group includes five pitchers, one infielder and two outfielders.
Pitchers Samuel Carpio, Brayan Mendoza, Emmett Olson, Tristan Stevens and Alex Williams, along with infielder Carter Johnson and outfielders Dillon Lewis, Miami’s No. 11 prospect according to MLB Pipeline, and Max Williams, Miami’s No. 27 prospect according to MLB Pipeline, were named to the roster.
Opening Day is scheduled for Oct. 3, with the league's first game featuring the Salt River Rafters and the Glendale Desert Dogs.
The 2026 season will feature six AFL clubs: Glendale Desert Dogs, Mesa Solar Sox, Peoria Javelinas, Salt River Rafters, Scottsdale Scorpions and Surprise Saguaros. Because each team is made up of prospects from multiple MLB organizations, players have the opportunity to compete alongside prospects from around the league while facing talent from other organizations.
The Arizona Fall League is one of MLB’s premier developmental leagues, bringing together some of the top prospects from across the sport for additional competition following the conclusion of the regular minor league season.
All 30 MLB organizations participate in the AFL, with players assigned to six teams based in the Phoenix metropolitan area.
The league provides prospects with an opportunity to continue their development against other highly-regarded players in the organization pipeline.
Players can use the AFL to gain additional experience, work on specific aspects of their game and receive more playing time before entering the offseason.
The Marlins are part of the Glendale Desert Dogs, along with the Braves, Dodgers, Pirates and White Sox.
The AFL season is scheduled to run through Nov. 14, giving players several weeks of additional competition. The league’s schedule also includes a championship game at the end of the season.
Several current and former MLB stars have played in the Arizona Fall League during their development, making the league an important stop for prospects on their path to the majors.
The AFL has also provided teams with an opportunity to evaluate players against advanced competition while giving prospects experience in a highly-competitive environment.
Marlins President of Baseball Operations Peter Bendix has frequently emphasized the importance of player development and building a strong farm system.
