The Miami Marlins seek redemption from loss against the Washington Nationals.
Coming off a 9-2 loss, the Miami Marlins look to bounce back against the Washington Nationals on Saturday.
Major-league rookie Jackson Kent was dominant on the mound. In seven innings, he allowed three hits and one earned run, walked four batters, and struck out three. Kent (1-2) was credited with his first win of the season. Meanwhile, Eury Perez didn’t have as good of an outing. In three innings, he allowed two hits and five earned runs, walked four batters, and struck out five.
Perez (7-10) was credited with the loss.
The Marlins’ playoff hopes (four games behind the Wild Card) still hang in the balance.
Pitching Matchup
Cade Cavalli will be the first pitcher on the mound for the Nationals. He’s in the midst of a career season: 3.21 ERA and a 12-5 record in 148.2 innings (28 starts). Cavalli faced the Marlins twice this year and allowed two earned runs in both outings. He relies on six pitches:
- Four Seamer: (33 percent)
- Knuckle Curve: (27.1 percent)
- Sweeper: (13.2 percent)
- Sinker: (13.2 percent)
- Changeup: (7.8 percent)
- Cutter: (5.7 percent)
Meanwhile, the Marlins are starting former Cy Young winner Sandy Alcantara on the mound. He’s allowed one earned run in two of his last three starts, both playing seven innings. Alcantara relies on seven pitches:
- Sinker (27.1 percent)
- Changeup (20.3 percent)
- Four Seamer (18.9 percent)
- Cutter (14.8 percent)
- Sweeper (8.5 percent)
- Slider (6.8 percent)
- Curveball (3.6 percent)
Alcantara gives the Marlins a strong chance to redeem themselves. However, the offense has to pick him up too.
