The Miami Marlins place second baseman Xavier Edwards on the 10-day injured list.

Coming off a miraculous 6-2 comeback win, scoring six unanswered runs in the ninth inning, the Miami Marlins look to even the series against the Washington Nationals on Monday.

After loading the bases, center fielder Jakob Marsee’s hit-by-pitch sparked the late momentum. They strung together consistent high-quality at-bats, capped off by shortstop Otto Lopez’s two-run homer to left field.

Three Marlins relievers (Calvin Faucher, Victor Vodnik, and Michael Peterson) didn’t allow a run and each struck out a batter. It will take a replica of the production to leave Nationals Park with back-to-back wins.

Pitching Matchup

Major league rookie Will Dion will start on the mound. He’s produced a 3.67 ERA and a 1-1 record in 18 games. Monday’s game will be the 26-year-old’s first major league start. Dion relies on six pitches:

- Four Seamer (42.2 percent)

- Changeup (25.4 percent)

- Curveball (19.6 percent)

- Cutter (8.8 percent)

- Sinker (3.9 percent)

Meanwhile, the Marlins will start Ryan Gusto. He’s produced a 3.98 ERA and a 1-3 record in 63.1 innings (18 games). Gusto received his first win of the season in last Wednesday’s series finale against the Boston Red Sox. He relies on seven pitches:

- Four Seamer (27.8 percent)

- Changeup (14.8 percent)

- Sweeper (13.2 percent)

- Cutter (13.1 percent)

- Sinker (12.7 percent)

- Slider (11 percent)

- Curveball (7.5 percent)

In Gusto’s last two starts, he didn’t allow a run in four-plus innings. The recent momentum will be important for the team.

Game Notes

The Marlins announced ahead of Monday’s game that second baseman Xavier Edwards (left thumb sprain) is on the 10-day injured list. He avoided serious injury, since the 27-year-old appeared to hyperextend his left arm on a tagging play on Sunday.

In response, infielder Jared Serna was called up from Triple-A. He won’t start, but is available to come off the bench. In Edwards’ place is Javier Sanoja (batting fourth) at second, Leo Jimenez (batting sixth) at third, and Kyle Stowers (fifth) at first.

Brian Navarreto (batting ninth) will operate behind the plate and Agustin Ramirez (batting third) at designated hitter.

How to Watch and Listen

The game will be televised on Nationals.TV., Fox Sports 1, and Marlins.TV. For radio options, the Nationals broadcast can be found on WJFK 106.7 and Marlins on WQAM 104.3 and WQAI 710.

First pitch is scheduled for 6:45 p.m. E.T.
