A couple of injury updates involving Marlins center fielder Jakob Marsee and reliever Tyler Zuber as the offseason progresses.

MIAMI — The Miami Marlins announced two injury updates Thursday involving center fielder Jakob Marsee and reliever Tyler Zuber.

Marsee will undergo UCL repair with an internal brace on his left elbow Oct. 12 after being evaluated by Dr. Keith Meister earlier this week.

He is expected to miss six months, which would make him available early in the 2027 season. While the timeline could allow Marsee to return relatively early in the season, his recovery will leave the Marlins without one of their options in center field to begin the year.

The news was first reported by Marlins president of baseball operations Peter Bendix during his end-of-season media availability, when he told reporters that Marsee was experiencing left elbow discomfort toward the end of the season.

Marsee, who never landed on the injured list in 2026, finished the season with a .231 batting average, 11 home runs and 41 RBIs. His performance improved significantly during the second half of the season, giving the Marlins an encouraging stretch from the young outfielder heading into the offseason.

As previously mentioned, if Marsee has to miss the first few weeks of the season, the Marlins have two internal options to fill in at center field, including Javier Sanoja and Esteury Ruiz, both of whom played the outfield in 2026.

The Marlins could also evaluate their roster and organizational depth during the offseason as they prepare for the possibility of Marsee being unavailable at the start of the season.

Zuber, who appeared in 44 games for Miami in 2026, will undergo UCL repair with an internal brace on his right elbow Oct. 12. The procedure is expected to keep him out for most or all of the 2027 season, adding another significant absence to the Marlins' pitching staff heading into the offseason.

Zuber joins relievers William Kempner and Andrew Nardi as players expected to miss most or all of the 2027 season. Kempner and Nardi sustained separate injuries during the 2026 season.

With Zuber joining Kempner and Nardi on the injury list for the upcoming season, Miami will have to account for multiple absences in its bullpen. The Marlins will also have to monitor Marsee's recovery as they determine how their roster will look when the 2027 season begins.

The injuries give Miami several areas to address during the offseason, particularly in the bullpen and center field. Marsee's expected return early in the season could limit the length of time the Marlins need an alternative in center, while Zuber's recovery timeline could leave a more significant opening in the bullpen.
