The Miami Marlins open a three-game series against the Pittsburgh Pirate, facing a first-base void.
MIAMI, Fla. – Coming off a series win over the Los Angeles Angels, plus some downtime on Monday, the Miami Marlins are looking to stay in the win column to start a three-game series against the Pittsburgh Pirates at LoanDepot Park on Tuesday.
Both teams are widely separated in the National League standings and chasing the Philadelphia Phillies for the last Wild Card spot.
Probable Pitchers
The Marlins list rising star Eury Perez as the probable pitcher. After returning from the injured list on June 6 against the Texas Rangers. He’s produced a 2.30 ERA and a 2-3 record in 47 innings (eight games). Perez relies on six pitches:
- Four-seamer (39.7 percent)
- Sinker (16 percent)
- Slider (15.4 percent)
- Sweeper (14.1 percent)
- Changeup (9.1 percent)
- Curveball (5.7 percent)
Meanwhile, the Marlins lineup will face reigning Cy Young winner Paul Skenes. He’s produced a 3.96 ERA and a 9-10 record in 129.2 innings (24 games). In Skenes’ last outing against the Marlins this season, June 14, he allowed four hits and two earned runs. Although the 24-year-old gave up the lead, he struck out 10 batters, the second-most in a single game this season.

Game Note
The Marlins are without All-Star and first baseman Kyle Stowers for the foreseeable future, who left Sunday’s game against the Angels with left hamstring discomfort. He was officially played on the 10-day injured list ahead of Tuesday’s game. However, the Marlins are recalling three-year veteran infielder Graham Pauley, first reported by Kevin Barral, in light of Stower’s injury. Despite primarily playing third base, Manager Clayton McCullough doesn’t shy from moving players out of position.
Griffin Conine, who practiced playing first base in spring training, appears to be the main candidate to fill in for Stowers. He’s fielded in the right corner once this season, on June 28 against the St. Louis Cardinals.
Another option that could be seen in Stowers' absence is Agustin Ramirez at first. He started behind the plate in Sunday’s game for the first time since May 3. After Ramirez was recalled from Triple-A to the active roster on May 4, President Peter Bendix alluded to him seeing time at first base and filling the Liam Hicks void.
