The Miami Marlins look to bounce back against the Philadelphia Phillies.
Following a 6-5 loss on Monday, including a controversial first-base call, the Miami Marlins look to turn the page and return to the win column in the second of three matchups against the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday.
With 36 games remaining on the regular-season schedule, the National League Wild Card race continues to shake. Both the Phillies and Marlins are battling for position. However, only one clubhouse will have the edge.
Probable Pitchers
The Marlins will elevate Cade Gibson from the bullpen. He will make his second major-league start on the mound. Gibson’s previous start came against the Washington Nationals on June 14, 2025. This season, the 28-year-old has produced a 5.61 ERA and a 2-0 record in 33.2 innings (29 games). Gibson relies on six pitches:
- Sweeper (26.4 percent)
- Sinker (23.8 percent)
- Curveball (23.2 percent)
- Slider (16.2 percent)
- Changeup (6.6 percent)
- Four Seamer (3.8 percent)
Gibson will have a lot to prove against one of the best offenses since the Aug. 3 trade deadline – a .268 team batting average (third-best in the league) in the last 15 days.
The Phillies will start two-time All-Star and former Gold Glove winner Zack Wheeler. He’s produced a 2.89 ERA and a 10-4 record in 115.1 innings (20 starts). Wheeler relies on six pitches:
- Four Seamer (35.3 percent)
- Split Finger (15.9 percent)
- Sinker (15.4 percent)
- Sweeper (14 percent)
- Cutter (10.8 percent)
- Curveball (8.5 percent)
Wheeler has a well-above-average chase rate (95th percentile), strikeout rate (92nd percentile), and whiff rate (88th percentile).
The 36-year-old will present another challenge for the Marlins’ lineup.
Game Notes
Center fielder Jakob Marsee will leadoff, Agustin Ramirez serves as a designated hitter, and Owen Caissie returns to the starting lineup at right field.
Brian Navaretto returns to operating behind home plate for a third consecutive game. Manager Clayton McCullough mentioned that Joe Mack is a day-to-day situation with a sore right shoulder.
The Phillies are rolling with the same starting lineup as Monday, including right fielder Bryce Harper batting third and second baseman Luis Arraez behind him.
